water – can you drink too much?

Categories: Symptoms Of Diabetes

Question:

Look at possible hyponatremia

– Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – My daughter drinks much more than 8 glasses a day (filtered, of course). Are there risks associated with drinking large quantities of water? Thanks for any information. Larry Mehl

Response:

8 glasses (8 oz.) is NOT too much depending on her age (is she 12 or older?).  I never drink less than 64 oz. a day and usually up to 128 oz. I am glad she is drinking filtered water otherwise she would be getting too much chlorine.  Put a filter on your shower too, that’s where most of the chlorine in the body comes from.            Wellness Being fairly stupid  how do you define glasses in pints for the behind Irishman

In case you are serious….. 1 glass/cup = 8oz 2 cups = 16oz = 1 pint 2 pints = 32oz = 1 quart 4 quarts = 128oz = 1 gallon I think that’s it :-) M – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – My daughter drinks much more than 8 glasses a day (filtered, of course). There is no such thing as too much water, really.  The only thing people should watch out for is drinking water TOO FAST.   Drinking water too fast overloads the kidneys and could cause them to swell and create damage.

Not to mention damaging the body’s electrolyte balance by taking in too much water. Today’s bit of trivia:  forcing someone to drink a large quantity of water quickly was a method of torture in the Middle Ages.   — David Wright :: alphabeta at prodigy.net      These are my opinions only, but they’re almost always correct.        "If I have not seen as far as others, it is because giants                   were standing on my shoulders." – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – My daughter drinks much more than 8 glasses a day (filtered, of course). "The Truth may not always win, but it is always right."  (Eli Hertz) A limited number of epidemiologic studies indicate that increased rates of birth defects, spontaneous abortion, neurologic impairment, and cancer have occurred in some residential populations exposed to hazardous wastes. We are concerned that other populations at risk might not have been adequately identified." And the Council said, "Millions of tons of hazardous materials are slowly migrating into groundwater in areas where they could pose problems in the future, even though current risks could be negligible." Response:

3 liters of water per day for an active teenager is well within safe amounts, as long as it doesn’t prevent her from eating, due to fullness. I know healthy athletes that consume a gallon per day.

Response:

Is she drinking that much water because she’s constantly thirsty?  I know that’s one of the symptoms of diabetes.  Other than that, while I’m not a doctor, I can’t believe that drinking this much water would have much more effect than frequent trips to the bathroom.  Your question is also answered here —  http://www.berkeleywellness.com/html/wl/2001/wlAskExperts1001.html Marty

It depends on her siza and activity.  An 18 year old athlete or landscaper … not too much.  An 8 year old child … too much Yes … it’s called water intoxication.   http://www.hhp.ufl.edu/keepingfit/ARTICLE/toomuchwater.htm Tsu Dho Nimh — If we are what we eat, I’m fast, cheap and easy
