– Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – " You have no heart. No, I just won’t spend one cent of my hard earned money on a pack of half truths fabricated by one idiot Michael More! I can think for myself. if you were really capable of thinking for yourself, there would be no danger in you seeing the film. There’s no danger, i think you’re wrong about that, at least with this person. by why should Moore profit? why should any film maker profit?

Good point.

Yeah, after all film making is an art and we know from another thread that art is worthless. | | why should any film maker profit?

At your age, I suppose it’s a bit late for you to go back and work on your reading comprehension. — Most people are dumb as bricks; some people are dumber than that. – MFW

Wow, I can’t believe how ignorant you really are. I hope you are just being sarcastic and hoping to get a rise out of people. I would suspect that is the case. If not, I suggest you read up on Islam. There are between 1.3 and 1.5 BILLION of them in the world. It is a peaceful religion, but has extremist in it just like any other. Keeping in mind Hitler was Christian and if everyone thought that is how all Christians act it wouldn’t look very good for us. If Islam wasn’t peaceful in general, we would all be in some trouble being the amount of them. It is the second largest religion and is one of the fastest growing.

Hitler was raised a Catholic, but he was not a Christian. He saw Christians and Jews as united — against him. Christians that he could not brainwash into being anti-semitic pigs he concluded to be his enemies. As far as "freedom" goes, it has nothing to do with invading a country like Iraq. They had no real military to speak of as was evident by our invasion. It is sort of like what the Palestinians deal with against Israel. They have no defense other than strapping a bomb on themselves. Sad state of affairs. I have studies Islam and also Iraq and why the Bush family wanted to invade it. Don’t be so gullible. They are making a boat load of money. Also, they were paid billions from the Saudis and further proof of that was when the only plane in the sky after 9/11 was many of bin Laudin’s family and a host of other Saudis. We have young kids being killed over there just to make a few people money. I really don’t know how those people can sleep at night? I guess it takes all kinds.

It certainly does. When you get a chance, read "The Fifty-six Deceits in Fahrenheit 911", by David Kopel. Biker

WILDOMAR – When Justin Hunt first tried to join the Marine Corps, the recruiters didn’t have a scale that could weigh him. So they simply estimated that he was more than 150 pounds above the maximum limit to join the service. Hunt, a hulking athlete then two years out of high school, didn’t let that stop him. He worked out hard, changed his diet and shed the pounds so he could enlist. Now his family is trying to hold on to the memories of that hard-charging year as they grieve for the 22-year-old lance corporal who was killed in an explosion Tuesday in western Iraq. "I want everybody to know what a great guy he was," his mother, Debbie, said as friends and relatives comforted her at the family home in Wildomar, a community about 75 miles east of Los Angeles. Amid preparations for a military funeral, the Marine’s family shared letters, photos and memories of a young man who embraced military life. "He loved being on a team, fighting for a goal," his mother said. "That was his personality." When he first approached a recruiter in 2002, Hunt was large but not completely out of shape. A dozen trophies in the living room attest to his high school accomplishments in baseball, wrestling and football. Still, he wasn’t Marine-fit. The recruiters estimated that the 6-footer weighed as much as 390 pounds, though they couldn’t be sure because the scale only went up to 350. "The recruiters were pretty taken aback by how big I was," he said in a 2003 interview with The Chevron, a newspaper that serves the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego. "But they were still willing to work with me to help me do what I had to do to become a Marine." That involved a lot of early morning runs through his semi-rural community in Riverside County, sometimes accompanied by a recruiter, Staff Sgt. Zach Delellis, family members said. "Any time he would get down and feeling like he might not want to do it, that recruiter was down here getting him out of bed," recalls his father, Tom. With a diet high in proteins, low in carbohydrates and as little junk food as possible, he got down to 207 pounds, just two pounds below the maximum allowed for his height. During boot camp in San Diego, he lost another 30 pounds and began telling his family that he wanted to be a drill instructor.
Saw Fahrenheit 9/11 tonight. It was pretty good, but I really already knew most of it from my readings and discussions with my father. It sure is a shame that these young guys are going to Iraq for nothing, but to make Cheney and Bush and a few of the good ol’ boys a pile of money. It is scary stuff really. I sure feel bad for these families of these kids that get killed over there. I guess the American public is getting used to it though. Most people don’t really care anymore. Sort of like the Israeli’s expanding their lands and tearing down people’s homes and putting up their own settlements. Who cares, as long as it isn’t us? The problem with this way of thinking is we have things like 9/11 happen and people scratch their heads in disbelief. I certainly believe it and also figure it will happen again as long as we arm the Israeli’s to the teeth to aid in their quest to have a bigger country. We sure do some stupid things in this country. JMHO, Curt

There was also a soldier that died in Iraq, but differently. Female.. Was a student at the local High School, but graduated 2 years ago. Said on the news the soldier had symptoms of diabetes, complications. Then on the way home, or at a armed forces medical hospital.. She died of diabetic shock. By the picture I seen on the news. She was not overweight at all. Young..20 years old. I will try and find a article about it, share it.

It is going to be very hard to recruit people for the armed forces. They will have to really go after the really poor and uneducated. Hey JC, maybe you may want to sign up.

1. What happened to that killfile all of a sudden? 2. I already spent 13 years in the military, and some of that was in the Middle East. 3. They hate us and want all of us to die. 4. Gullibility is your domain, and you obviously believe Moore. 5. Why is your bodyfat% still so high? 6. How much time have you spent in the Middle East?

" You have no heart. No, I just won’t spend one cent of my hard earned money on a pack of half truths fabricated by one idiot Michael More! I can think for myself. if you were really capable of thinking for yourself, there would be no danger in you seeing the film. There’s no danger,

i think you’re wrong about that, at least with this person. by why should Moore profit?

why should any film maker profit?

If I > > over-explain terms you know, please forgive me! > I forgive… LOL > > > In winter ‘97 I got an attack of the bowels, I had the runs badly and > all > > > that came out was water. I had that for a weeek untill I saw the doctor, > at > > > first he thought of appendicitis because I had pain on the right lower > side > > > of my belly. > > Do you have any other symptoms, such as fever or bloody stools with > > these attacks? If so, I have something very similar. My doctor says it > > is not IBS or spastic colon, mostly because of findings such as the > > bloody stool, inflamation in my terminal ilieum (that’s the part of the > > small intestine that connects to the colon), fever and an elevated ESR > > (Westegren sedimentation rate; a non-specific measure of inflammation in > > the body) that are never present with IBS. > The only other thing I have is when I have my period I’m in excruciating > pains.

Flare-up of symptoms during that time of month is common in women with IBS. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> When I need to go to the toilet I’m scared, it hurts so much more than > usual. > But no, no fevers. I had that only once with my first attack, I never > experience fever > and I haven’t got a clue why. > Sometimes when the feaces is so thick there can be some blood, but I suspect > it’s because my skin around the anus has become thin and tears more easily. > I do have occasional slime and weird colors. > > I’ve had a lot of diagnoses – chronic subclinical appendicitis, Familial > > Mediterranean Family Fever (which also happens in those of Ashkenazi or > > Shephardic Jew desecent) and the latest one is possible mild Crohn’s. > > Since it isn’t known what exactly it is that I have, I can’t offer much > > advice – just sympathy. I take Vicodin (hydrocodone and acetominphen) to > > control the pain. In most people it causes constipation, but I’ve never > > had that happen; in fact, it hardly slows the diarrhea at all. I was on > > colchicine for a while, and I might try taking it again, but it didn’t > > do anything for the fevers. > > The next time you have a serious attack, you might want to see if you > > can have a CT scan done. Sometimes abnormalities can only be seen when > > the symptoms are at their worst. > > Good luck! > I had a scan done once after my first attack (we call it echoscopy you know > like they do with pregnancies)

LOL, that’s called an ultrasound here. There is a similiar test called a Doppler where they can look at veins and such. The Doppler test is often used to find blood clots in the legs (have had that test myself a few times). > They found nothing out of the ordinary, except a not fully grown kidney. > My bowel looked alright at that point. > I had a stressy day today and I was on and off the toilet, I couldn’t really > eat. > I’m back at the doctors office in the morning to discuss it all and try to > get some more help with this. > One other thing… has anyone ever heard of this, IBS can have related joint > pain? > I read that on the net at a Dutch IBS site, I’ve been having joint pain > almost as long as I have IBS. Is there a connection?

Haven’t heard that before, but thanks for providing that interesting information.
That’s called "being a girl." I was on Depo-Provera for 10 years, and didn’t have any periods. I was sterilized last year, and am making up for all those missed periods! My bowel symptoms, though, are the same no matter what part of my cycle I’m in; during my perid, though, I have uterine pain in addition to the right-sided pain. Not Fun. > When I need to go to the toilet I’m scared, it hurts so much more than > usual. > But no, no fevers. I had that only once with my first attack, I never > experience fever > and I haven’t got a clue why.

That may actually be a good thing. Fevers are not part of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (what I call spastic colon), and IBS is never life-threatening/ > Sometimes when the feaces is so thick there can be some blood, but I suspect > it’s because my skin around the anus has become thin and tears more easily. > I do have occasional slime and weird colors.

Bloody stool is either blood in the stool mass, or loose blood in the toilet. Blood on the toilet paper is usually from hemorrhoids, fissures, abrasions, etc – not from the intestine itself. > I had a scan done once after my first attack (we call it echoscopy you know > like they do with pregnancies)

In the US, those are called sonograms. A CT is computer-aided tomography, and the patient drinks a NASTY dye or barium solution, and is put on a table that enters the CT device. A CT can image things a sonogram cannot (I’ve had both). > They found nothing out of the ordinary, except a not fully grown kidney.

Yikes. > One other thing… has anyone ever heard of this, IBS can have related joint > pain? > I read that on the net at a Dutch IBS site, I’ve been having joint pain > almost as long as I have IBS. Is there a connection?

Yes and no. Some theories of IBS center on the patient being attention-seeking, and over-dramatizing normal aches and pains. Others relate fibromylagia – a term and diagnosis much in debate in the US – with IBS. On the other hand, IBD (inflammatory bowel disease) are autoimmune disorders and patients with IBD often have arthritis or other joint problems.

Hi Barb. The funny thing is, my doctor heard my symptoms and the pattern it sometimes takes, and a listen to my belly and some feeling around (wich was painful in some spots) Got an echoscopy… can anyone tell me the word for this, I forgot. And the continueing returns to the doc when it got all bad again. I looked up IBS on some specialist sites and I have all the classic symptoms, so my doc wasn’t wrong about it. I don’t have diabetes, I know because I have to get regular blood check ups for my meds for Psoriasis. I never saw any specialist about my condition, but in the morning when I’m at the docs office I will talk about it. I need to get some good advice especially for the cramps, that can be really bad at times. Misty. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> Misty, what kinds of tests did the doctor perform during the examination.
The only other thing I have is when I have my period I’m in excruciating pains. When I need to go to the toilet I’m scared, it hurts so much more than usual. But no, no fevers. I had that only once with my first attack, I never experience fever and I haven’t got a clue why. Sometimes when the feaces is so thick there can be some blood, but I suspect it’s because my skin around the anus has become thin and tears more easily. I do have occasional slime and weird colors. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> I’ve had a lot of diagnoses – chronic subclinical appendicitis, Familial > Mediterranean Family Fever (which also happens in those of Ashkenazi or > Shephardic Jew desecent) and the latest one is possible mild Crohn’s. > Since it isn’t known what exactly it is that I have, I can’t offer much > advice – just sympathy. I take Vicodin (hydrocodone and acetominphen) to > control the pain. In most people it causes constipation, but I’ve never > had that happen; in fact, it hardly slows the diarrhea at all. I was on > colchicine for a while, and I might try taking it again, but it didn’t > do anything for the fevers. > The next time you have a serious attack, you might want to see if you > can have a CT scan done. Sometimes abnormalities can only be seen when > the symptoms are at their worst. > Good luck!

I had a scan done once after my first attack (we call it echoscopy you know like they do with pregnancies) They found nothing out of the ordinary, except a not fully grown kidney. My bowel looked alright at that point. I had a stressy day today and I was on and off the toilet, I couldn’t really eat. I’m back at the doctors office in the morning to discuss it all and try to get some more help with this. One other thing… has anyone ever heard of this, IBS can have related joint pain? I read that on the net at a Dutch IBS site, I’ve been having joint pain almost as long as I have IBS. Is there a connection? And REP thanks, sometimes a listening ear can do a world of good too. ) Misty.

Why take expensive herbalife when I get my meds through my insurance? I think you’re spamming. Metamucil is harmless, the fibre is of a solubal kind and is extremely well suited for people with bowel problems. Go away with your Herbalife, I get a blockage just thinking about it!
Lurker unlurking… As a kick this morning, I checked my blood levels when my boyfriend had his glucose meter handy after checking his. My reading was 130. Boyfriend is having a fit. Says I’m possibly diabetic. I haven’t eaten anything except water (yes, plain water) since about 6 PM last night. No breakfast yet. That means fasting for 15 hours. Evening meal was low-carb. I promised boyfriend I would read up on blood sugars, etc. So can some of you folks with diabetes experience point me to some sites where I can read up so I can be prepared should I have to (sigh) see a doctor? Thanks in advance.

My reading was 130. possibly diabetic. fasting for 15 hours.

Hi, AnaMaranda, A blood sugar level of 130 is not alarming, however, a one-time reading does not give much information. If you have a blood glucose machine that is properly calibrated and non-expired test strips, you can develop a blood sugar diary yourself. (your fingers will be a little sore, however!) Check you blood glucose (BG) each meal and two hours thereafter. Record the readings on a chart and make a small notation regarding what you ate. Also, it will be helpful to list any medications, illnesses you are experiencing or other possibly influencing factors. Here are some web sites which will provide you a lot of information about diabetes in general. http://www.niddk.nih.gov/health/diabetes/pubs/diagnosis/diagnosis.htm http://www.niddk.nih.gov/health/diabetes/diabetes.htm Good luck and be well! Hope this helps you. Kevin

But they lowered it for a very good reason. Complications can set in with undiagnosed diabetes, and those odds rise with higher than normal BG. Getting diagnosed early and on a good food plan… like low carb ; ) AND meds if needed, is our best chance for a LOOOOONG complication free life. Jennifer – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Talk with your doctor so he can get rid of the fears. A fasting reading between 120 to 160 is considered normal. They may have lowered that some recently, but absent other indicators of diabetes I would not pump up my blood pressure over it. :) OK so they lowered the range of normal downwards while I wasn’t looking. :) Now 70 to 110 is considered normal. My texts have the old info and until recently 120 to 160 did not get anyone upset unless it came tagged with other risk factors. So, see the doctor, draw some blood and let him/her factor what the test reports along with whatever else is known about health condition. Still not worth getting upset or allowing blood pressure to rise over one reading on a home measuring device known to be woefully off in BG readings.
No fears. I’m familiar with diabetes since boyfriend has it. I was just basically *surprised* with that reading. BF is the one having a cow.(G) So, DON’T PANIC!

No panic either. (G) My opinionated guess is that your body needed glucose and went into overtime deaminating protein because you were starving it.

Good explanation. I’ll take it. So eat and stop with the starving routine already.

Starving routine? Hey, I ate a good meal last night, and checked my blood sugar when I woke up. That’s not a "starving routine" -I just didn’t have breakfast while I was asleep. (G) Thanks for your advice and concern.

Sorry Lee… But the American Diabetes Association says this: http://www.diabetes.org/main/type2/medical/lab/default.jsp Fasting Plasma Glucose Test The fasting plasma glucose test is the preferred way to diagnose diabetes. It is easy to perform and convenient. After you have fasted overnight (at least 8 hours), a single sample of your blood is drawn at the doctor’s office and sent to the laboratory for analysis. Normal fasting plasma glucose levels are less than 110 milligrams per deciliter (mg/dl). Fasting plasma glucose levels of more than 126 mg/dl on two or more tests on different days indicate diabetes. And this is a quote from the NIH: The committee states that diabetes can be detected by any of three positive tests. To confirm the diagnosis, there must be a second positive test on a different day. * A casual plasma glucose level (taken at any time of day) of 200 mg/dL or greater when the symptoms of diabetes are present. * A fasting plasma glucose value of 126 mg/dL or greater. * An OGTT value in the blood of 200 mg/dL or greater measured at the 2-hour interval.
8 glasses (8 oz.) is NOT too much depending on her age (is she 12 or older?). I never drink less than 64 oz. a day and usually up to 128 oz. I am glad she is drinking filtered water otherwise she would be getting too much chlorine. Put a filter on your shower too, that’s where most of the chlorine in the body comes from. Wellness Being fairly stupid how do you define glasses in pints for the behind Irishman

There is no such thing as too much water, really. The only thing people should watch out for is drinking water TOO FAST. Drinking water too fast overloads the kidneys and could cause them to swell and create damage.

Not to mention damaging the body’s electrolyte balance by taking in too much water.
3 liters of water per day for an active teenager is well within safe amounts, as long as it doesn’t prevent her from eating, due to fullness. I know healthy athletes that consume a gallon per day.

Anybody that has even one of #3, #4, #5, #6, #9, and #10 should be bothering their doctor. With those symptoms, it could be more than one thing, and what you don’t know definitely CAN hurt you. If I had had just two simple routine blood tests, I could have saved myself years of medical problems and complications.
There is no way anyone can diagnose diabetes without the proper testing and examination. That is the role a doctor plays. In any condition where you have any suspicion of any disease, the only people qualified to diagnose you is a medical doctor.
All of them could be symptoms of diabetes. Or of something else. The fact that they’re occurring together certainly warrants medical evaluation, so I’d say you definitely *should* "bother" your doctor about them, and soon. The test used for diagnosing diabetes is a routine part of ordinary bloodwork. Given your risk factors, you should also have your blood lipids checked, and pay attention to your blood pressure.

You MUST go to the doctor. No one here can or should read a bunch of symptoms and make a diagnosis… not even a doctor would do that. Here are what I think are my symptoms: 1. I’m thirsty all the time – but I don’t go to the bathroom anym ore often than usual. (If you are diabetic I think you go to the bathroom more. 2. I am 5′4" tall and weigh 152 pounds so I am overweight (I haven’t lost any weight – don’t you loose weight if you have diabetes?) 3. My feet are purple. 4. My legs and arms fall asleep all the time constantly. 5. I am constantly very itchy – and when I scratch I get big bruises all over my arms and legs that take for ever to go away. 6. I get dizzy and lightheaded all the time 7. My body mass index is 26.1 8. Diabetes runs in my family – but I’m only 32. 9. I’m always naseaus 10. I am very tired all of the time. I have difficulty being and staying awake.

Question:

Non diabetic numbers (according to the Joslin Diabetes Center) are: 1 hour after a meal: Under 140 2 hours after a meal: Under 120. Jennifer – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – A couple of my fellow workers asked if I could test their bg’s. I did and one of them was 153, the other 173. Is this normal for non-diabetics? The tests were about 1 1/2 hrs after a potluck. My bg’s were 103. They had coconut cream pie and Boston Cream pie for desert. I had a tiny sliver of the Boston Cream (yummy!!!) Anybody have any feedback on this? TIA Ted (Darrell)

Response:

Those numbers *might* be considered a bit high, but not terribly. However, I don’t think "real" non-diabetics stay that high that long, their insulin just keeps pumping out and taking care of things like pizza and chocolate cake! I, too, was "non-diabetic", until a random bg test (at the doctor for a general checkup) showed some elevated # (I forget exactly), and she confirmed the diagnosis a few days later with a fasting test. Since I had already showed sugar in a urine dipstick test that my gyn did, I wasn’t horribly surprised. (just looked it up: that random test was 232, the fasting was 135) Your colleagues should take this as a clue to get properly checked or at least keep an eye out. Did they ask you for a test out of curiosity or because they think they might be at risk? I’m glad mine was caught "early". I’m sure it has made it easier to control, since I’ve never had to struggle with dm meds as d&e worked well right from the start. bj From http://www.niddk.nih.gov/health/diabetes/pubs/diagnosis/diag nosis.htm "The [American Diabetes Association expert] committee states that diabetes can be detected by any of three positive tests. To confirm the diagnosis, there must be a second positive test on a different day. A casual plasma glucose level (taken at any time of day) of 200 mg/dL or greater when the symptoms of diabetes are present. A fasting plasma glucose value of 126 mg/dL or greater. An OGTT value in the blood of 200 mg/dL or greater measured at the 2-hour interval."

I have performed the same service for my co-workers. I have never seen a bG over 120. Almost all of them have been below 100. I catch them two hours after breakfast, or two hours after lunch. Sometimes I force the issue by passing out candy bars and testing their bG’s under circumstances that would have me pushing 300. Your friends have a very good friend. IMHO, the best things you can do for a friend is: a. tell them about unprotected sex and Aids b. explain cocaine c. get them to have some sort of diabetes test regularly d. explain "buy low. . .sell high" Regards Old Al (T1 since 94, 35 units H + U via 4 injections daily) A retired engineer who shares his experiences

Slippery slope… IMHO, this could be a good "heads up" for them, especially if there’s any family history and/or they’re overweight and/or sedentary. It’s not in diabetic range, but it’s heading there. Beth

From what my Dr. told me, a non diabetic should not have a reading over 140 at 2 hours after eating. Not sure what it would be at 1 1/2 hours. Hmmm… — Type 2 http://www.redshift.com/~juliebove/

How much glucose concentration is shown that the person is diabetics?

There are three criteria that can be used to diagnose diabetes: 1. An 8 hour fasting glucose of 126 mg/dl (11.1 mmol/l). 2 A random glucose of 200 mg/dl (7.0 mmol/l) and overt symptoms of diabetes. 3 A 2 hour reading of 200 mg/dl (7.0 mmol/l) in a 75 gram Oral Glucose Tolerance Test. A single instance of any of the three must be confirmed by a second test, again of any of the three. — Charly Coughran

Response:

Hi, How much glucose concentration is shown that the person is diabetics? Ares

Basically, this has traditionally been done by measuring the blood glucose concentration under fasting conditions, specifically in the morning and when the person has not taken anything except water since the midnight before. Non-diabetics normally range between 60 to 110 mg/dl. However, they sometimes run higher than this. The received wisdom of the medical profession is that 126 mg/dl and higher is a sign of a possible problem. But no single measurement of this type, unless really far higher than 125 mg/dl, should be used for diagnosis. Also, blood sugar measurements taken 1 to 2 hours after a normal meal are instructive. Non-diabetics run up to about 140 mg/dl, but can reach as high as 150 mg/dl. If a person consistenly tests beyond that range, depending on how high they go, they could be diagnosed as having diabetes. Still another test is the glucose tolerance test. Here, a person is given 75 grams of glucose and their blood sugar curve is plotted with several measurements. However, due to the many false diagnoses that I have personally observed that were based on this test, I don’t think it is realiable enough to be taken seriously unless unequivocal results happen. Another interesting measurement tool in the diagnosis of diabetes is the H1Ac. This shows what the person’s blood sugar has been averaging over about the past month. But here again, there are borderline cases. My advice to borderline cases (which they call something like "people with impared glucose tolerance") is simply to sit tight and acquire a blood glucometer. Further monitoring of blood sugar levels may reveal that it was all a false alarm, OR it could pinpoint the actual start of true diabetes, and do so in time so as to avoid really getting sick.
This isn’t the place to look for answers to something like that. Spend the money and see a doctor. You don’t want to get an inaccurate diagnosis from us amateurs! Steve Bukosky http://www.execpc.com/~sbukosky/

…Aside from having a very dry mouth in the morning, drinking loads of water, and going to the bathroom constantly, I feel great. …I don’t have burning sensations during urination or any other discomfort in that area, so I don’t think I have a urinary track [sic] infection. Any ideas anyone?

Why yes! Please see a doctor as soon as possible— if you are in the US, a county hospital or free clinic will evaluate and treat you at little or no cost, if that is an issue. This really isn’t a medical forum— though Lord knows we all like to give advice <G and it sounds as if you need some *real* medical expertise. Good luck, and let us know what you find out! Darla — giving some sound advice for a change!

Response:

For the last few weeks, I’ve been experiencing intense thirst (drinking over a gallon of water a day) and very frequent urination, mostly at night. Some nights I urinate over 15 times, and each of those urinations is a full urination (volume). The urine is very clear (it should be, I drink so darn much!) I also have a very, very dry mouth, mostly when I wake up in the morning, but sometimes during the day also. A friend of my who has diabetes thought I might have it also (she had same symptoms when she was diagnosed). She has a home glucose monitor and tested me. For 4 straight days, she tested me every morning (she calls this a "fasting" test), and once or twice more each day, 30 min to 2 hours after big meals or after one of what she calls my ‘candy binges’. She also tested me at the height of my intense thirst episodes. For every single test, she said my levels were normal. The number in the morning ("fasting") was always 85-90, and the tests after meals were never much higher than that (I forget the highest number). She says her home test meter is very accurate, something about it being self-calibrating. She also mentioned that she recently verified her results from the meter against lab results from blood taken by her doctor (about 3 weeks ago). BTW, she also had some glucose urine testing tablets (she doesn’t use them much because she says they’re not as accurate), and I did a few tests with those. I felt like Mr. Wizard watching it boil! All the results were negative (blue color). So my question is, what else could be causing my intense thirst and very frequent urination? I am young (twenties), lean & fit, exercise regularly, eat reasonably well, and only drink water (no soda or alcohol). Aside from having a very dry mouth in the morning, drinking loads of water, and going to the bathroom constantly, I feel great. The only disorders I read about that cause my symptoms are diabetes and urinary track infections. I don’t have burning sensations during urination or any other discomfort in that area, so I don’t think I have a urinary track infection. Any ideas anyone? Share what you know. Learn what you don’t.

Well, the good news is, since your blood and urine sugars have so consistently tested normal, it sounds like you probably don’t have diabetes melittus (although I can see why your friend was so concerned – you described my pre-diagnosis symptoms to a "T"!) I would, however, encourage you to talk to your doctor, as there appears to be something strange going on. One possibility I can think of: there’s a disease called "diabetes insipidus", which isn’t really diabetes at all (it’s much less serious, from everything I’ve heard). I know very little about it, but apparently it does cause excessive thirst and urination. Obviously, no one here can diagnose you over the internet. See your doctor. Good luck and hope it’s nothing serious! Laura
