I was wondering why everyone on here seems to go to an endocrinologist. I will admit I am pretty stupid during college when it came to biology, so I am unsure about what endocrinologists do.  Why do diabetics need to see an endocrinologist? Amanda

They are specialist in the endocrine systems and diseases. The pancreas is an endocrin e gland. The pancrease is the producer of insulin and isn’t working correctly in diabetics. Carol

Hi, Amanda…think of it this way…you wouldn’t go to a foot doctor to get heart surgery, right?  Well, an endocrinologist is a metabolic disorder doctor, and sometimes they focus on certain things like hormonal levels. Even among endos there are specialties.  the best kind of endo is called a diabetician.  With as many people in the country with this disease, there’s plenty of docs like that. Bonita
