why am I "high" in the a.m.???
Question:
Hi – I’m a type 2 – diagnosed 2 years ago – 49 yr old female. After a few months of "denial", I guess I’m settling in. One thing I can’t understand is why my b/g #s are in the 150’s every morning. In the p.m., after exercising and a few hours after lunch, it gets down to around 100-110 daily. I know there’s something to do with the liver but I don’t know what and I don’t know how to get it down.
See the FAQ for an explanation of the 3 major causes of high fasting blood sugar levels, waining insulin, dawn phenomenon, and Somogyi. You don’t give us any information about your current treatment which makes it hard to make suggestions. Once you determine why your fasting bg levels are high, treatment stratagies will probably suggest themselves. — Charly Coughran

Rezulin works better when taken with food. It has a half life of 16 to 32 hours which means that a pill taken with dinner should carry you thru the night. I am currently taking 400mg Rezulin with dinner, 250mg Glucophage with breakfast and dinner, 500mg Glucophage at bedtime, 2.5mg Glipizide breakfast and early AM, 5mg Glipizide dinner and bedtime. Seems like a hassle; however went of 70 to 80 units of insulin daily with morning reading dropping from 140/150 to under 100. Good luck.

Annie, There is something called the dawn effect that happens to a large number of people. In normal folks, it isn’t a problem. In diabetics, we end up with high glucose levels some mornings. Actually this happens to me. I now take 500mg metformin every evening with dinner. I now at least have glucose levels under 150 in the mornings! This is really an improvement for me. My husband says it stems from the early days of man when he had to get up and go find breakfast instead of pulling off the shelf. What happens it that your liver dumps out a large amount of glucagon(sp?) to help your body get a jump start to go out and find breakfast. I hope this helps. If it is a major problem, talk to your doctor and other health care professionals. Keep in touch! Michele I know where all my marbles are. The question is…where’s the purple Crown Royal bag I keep them in? ***Women could gather more from television if men would quit hunting!*** – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Hi – I’m a type 2 – diagnosed 2 years ago – 49 yr old female. I’m new to AOL but not new to the internet so if anyone has any great sites they can recomment I’d be greatful. I just discovered Diabetic Emporium on the internet yesterday and I think I’ll be ordering something soon. Has anyone tried their stuff? Thanks, I’ll be watching……Annie
