Where can I find Splenda

Categories: Diabetics

Question:

Everybody says Splenda is the best AS for baking, but I can’t find it anywhere.  I’ve checked grocery stores, pharmacies, health food, etc.  Can somebody tell me where to find it around Boston?  Thanks.

It IS available in health food and vitamin stores.

Most health food stores in my area (even the big chains like Wild Oats and Whole Foods) not only REFUSE TO CARRY Splenda or any other artificial sweeteners, they won’t even carry products CONTAINING any artificial sweeteners.

Response:

Where do you live Gary? The area I just moved from didn’t carry it in any health food or vitamin stores.  That area was in Illinois. I haven’t checked here in Arizona but I believe the Zonies here order their Splenda as well. The manufacturer was not ready to meet the demand when it was approved by the FDA in April 1998.  A good deal of the supply is being bought up by other manufacturers putting it in their products.  It’s expected to be on the shelves in about another year. —                 "There’s a seeker born every minute."

Perhaps you’re confusing Splenda with stevia.  Stevia, an herbal extract product, would be found in health food stores.  Splenda, a man-made artificial sweetener, would not be found there. The lifescan link used to be the easiest link to find.  But www.splenda.com finally added an Order link at www.splenda.com itself, without having to go to the "message to diabetics" section first. (Lifescan is a manufacturer of blood glucose monitors.  Perhaps we shouldn’t be using their referral link.) —                 "There’s a seeker born every minute."

It’s the same corporate family. Lifescan is the brand name for Johnson & Johnson’s blood glucose monitors; McNeil is the food products division. — AF

Ditto. Health foods in my area *only* carry products containing real sugars.
