What is soya powder?

Categories: Diabetics

Question:

I’ve tried already twice to make the bread. First time was an utter disaster. Second time was a bit less of a disaster, but still pretty bad (my bread has yet to rise.

I still think the bread tastes like s_ _ _.  I too made the pancakes and they likewise tasted like s _ _ _.  I really feel that you need to find another alternative to bread and pancakes… Bridget

Response:

I am on the Atkins’ Diet and am missing bread. The book has a recipe for bread in the back that requires soya powder, which I cannot find. Can someone please tell me what it is and where I might find it or a what could be a reasonable/reliable substitute? I want some bread for a sandwich. Dagwood

Go to a health food store of some sort. They should carry it. I went to one here in Charlottesville and lo and behold, they had it.Its a powdery subsatnce, not wholly unlike flour, but it smells a bit like peanut butter. Make sure you get someone who knows how to cook to help you through the first time. I’ve tried already twice to make the bread. First time was an utter disaster. Second time was a bit less of a disaster, but still pretty bad (my bread has yet to rise. I think I need to stiffen the egg whites even more.) Pancakes on the other hand are a breeze to make. Just get yourself some 0 sugar syrrup for diabetics and you’re set. You can have eggs, bacon and pancakes for breakfast and not break your diet. -Dave
