VAT
Question:
My plan, was gross the amount paid out up at my marginal rate of tax, add an amount for emotional upset etc and offset against my tax (probably council tax, maybe income, maybe I should try both) bill. Then wait for them to try to sue me. If they do it’s press conference time with story along lines of Glos NHS trust denies diabetics potentailly lifesaving drugs to save a few hundred pounds a year.
Cheers
NHS trusts are funded by direct taxation. IOW from the Government. Local or county authorities have no input or say in the provision of drugs. Make sure you have Diabetes UK on your side, and also contact John Prescott (a fellow diabetic), your local MP and also Alan Milburn. If it was a hugely expensive and unproven treatment then there could well be an issue here, but for insulin it really is taking the piss. I thought the Conservative QALY scheme had been quietly put to the sword years ago. Ratty — All killer no filler ratty at flyingrat.net Site back up: www.flyingrat.net

I’m curious as I intent to deduct the costs etc from the amount I pay either in council tax or income tax depending on who funds the Glos NHS Trust. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Just where do diabetics stand for paying VAT. I believe "we" don’t have to pay it on medical supplies (I think I read) or am I mislead somewhere. Please someone correct me and put the record strait. Yes you can claim it back on supplies. Your chemist will have details, mine does. In fact of the three I use (but mainly just one as I like them) all three have VAT reclaim forms on display for meters and the like. Prescription items, however, might not come under those rules. It might be worth inquiring if any items you buy are, but as a prescription item is either flat rated (no VAT payable) or free under exemption then I wouldn’t think so. ratty — All killer no filler ratty at flyingrat.net Site back up: www.flyingrat.net
