Nutrasweet and Polyuria
Question:
Has anyone had any patients complain about a connection here? One patient told me when he was using aspartame sweetened products he had to get up several times a night. When he switched to saccharin sweetened products, he found he urinated much less frequently, and only got up once a night. Ever heard such a thing?

Richalyn, Excessive urination is a moderately common sign of the beginning stages of aspartame toxicity. It was found in 13% of the cases in the Journal of Applied Nutrition, Volume 40, page 85-94. It is most likely due to the formaldehyde metabolite from aspartame or possibly the aspartame breakdown chemical, aspartylphenylalanine diketopiperzine (which has never been tested for chronic toxicity). I have been contacted by several diabetic specialists who have had their patients switch to healthier sweeteners with excellent success. Fortunately, there are a number of healthier sweeteners for diabetics so they can avoid chronic toxicity. Stevia is a very popular choice, but not the only good choice. I think that saccharin is a good choice to transition from aspartame/neotame to other sweeteners. One more things.
Another very common symptom from aspartame toxicity is angry, abusive name-calling and put-downs. The cause is probably a combination of aspartame and inability to discuss issues rationally.

If you’re going to mock or critique Mark’s or anyone’s posting, at least have the integrity to do it in your own text, not deliberately change the text you’re quoting. It does nothing for your credibility to misquote. — Nanuq of the North Remove grzl to send email: I’m only a grizzly before (decaf) coffee!
