Do you all find that Atkins works BEST for people with a LOT of weight to lose rather than people who might have 20-30 lbs to lose?? I just read an article stating that Atkins should only be done by OBESE peope or diabetics. Any thoughts on this?? Thanks. Michelle from Vegas

That is true of nearly ANY weight loss system, so singling out Atkins that way is a logic falacy.  In other words nonsense. I just read an article stating that Atkins should only be done by OBESE peope or diabetics.

Following a plan that calls eating vegitables every day is something that only the obese should do?  That doesn’t make sense. Before the discovery of insulin, low carbing was the only known treatment for diabetics.  So clearly diabetics can be treated by diet alone in the absence of insulin.  I think it should be recommended for *all* diabetics and that insulin be used in addition as needed.  The least medication for the job and all that.

I think it’s just as hard for both parties…..and I believe all people can do it…whether it’s 200, 50, or 10lbs you need to lose.

Another theory says that the core ideas are developed for athletes. I’ve used something close to atkins (P30%/C10%/F60%) to go from normal to athletic stoutness – lost 17 pounds (am now 167 lbs at 6′1"), or more importantly 2.5 inches on waist. And as a bonus I can exercise more than I could on a normal Danish diet with small amounts of meat and large portions of potato for dinner, rye bread for lunch with ultra thin meat slices, and raw oatmeal for breakfast.
