health insurance recommedations?

Categories: Diabetics

Question:

For info and ratings on health organizations in California, check out: http://www.healthscope.org/ Mike

Response:

Does anyone have a recommendation for a health insurance carrier?  I work for a small employer (less than 5 employees) so I sign up individually and the company pays an alloted amount for the premium. I have tried blue cross, and they were absolutely terrible.  I would really appreciate any recommendations anyone has to offer.

Since you live in California, call the state Dept. of Corporations for a list of insurance companies, HMOs, and PPOs that will accept diabetics. These days there are many. (I am Type One and since June 1996 have been covered by Foundation Health PPO.  The deductible is high, but there is no extra premium because of diabetes.  Before being accepted, I did have to furnish proof that my bg is in good control and that I do not have any diabetic complications.)
