Free Cranberry Juice with Splenda
Question:
Hello All, If anyone is interested, Ocean Spray is offering free samples of their cranberry juice sweetened with Splenda. Just call their 24/7 toll free number if you want to try some. (800) 432-9600 I haven’t called yet, but supposedly no obligation. I plan to call tonight to check it out. I like cranberry juice. I like the Ocean Spray combos better like Cran- Raspberry, Cran- Apple and etc, hope they’ll make those with Splenda too. I’m going to ask if they have plans to extend the Splenda to any of the other flavors. Regards, Jood

I just called them and they’re offering a coupon for a free bottle of the Ocean Spray Light Style. It should arrive in 3-4 weeks. They already have cran-raspberry, and cran-grape for sure and another one I haven’t found yet. By far, the cran-grape is my favorite, and harest to get because its alwaqys out of stock on the shelves here. Carol

Thanks a lot for pointing that out. That would be very bad for me, and probably for many others. I have tried Splenda a time or two in soft drinks- seemed to taste good- no aftertaste anyway. Do you know whether all the products using Splenda also have Fructose as a "helper" sweetening agent or just the Ocean Spray juice? I know better than to not carefully read labels. Thanks for the reminder. It’s something that all of us should remember. The vendor would have us focus on the Splenda as they market their product, not bothering to tell us that there is something else in there many diabetics should not have. We cannot depend on a company selling sokmething, EVER! Have to take the initiative and responsibility to check it out thoroughly ourselves. Thanks again, you are really on the ball. I might not have posted that information to the group had I known, or at least I would have included the warning about the fructose. We do need each other, don’t we. If two heads are better than one, how good can we be together! Regards, Jood

A word of caution on this — I looked at it in the grocery store, and although it does have Splenda, it also has fructose. You may want to take not of the totals for sugars and carbs on the label.
True its not a zero carb beverage. They run about 10 carbs per 8 oz compared to regular cranberry juice drinks which average 30-40 grams for the same volume of juice. Carol

I don’t know about Ocean Spray cranberry juice in particular, but any real (natural) fruit juice will have some carbs in it, whatever else is added to make it palatable (cranberries need help, they’re rather tart). Perhaps the fructose is part of the real-juice component, rather than being added? bj.

Jood, I really can’t tell you about other brands because I don’t know. With the Ocean Spray anyway, the use of Splenda gives an improved taste with the sugars reduced enough that it will be fine, at least in small quantities, for many of us. The problem can be that people see that it’s sweetened with Splenda, don’t read the nutrition panel, and end up getting far more sugars than they realize. Yes, one of the great things about these groups is that we can all help watch out for each other. I have learned a great deal here and on some mailing lists. Tough situations are generally better when you have company. Hugs, Teri

Nope, definitely added. Even so, the juice may do quite well for some folks. I mentioned it so everyone would know to check and watch how much they drink.
