Discrimination in the workplace
Question:
I have worked for this company for almost 6 years. I have been an insulin dependent diabetic for 23 years now. Recently, my employer changed my shift on me without my consent, and against my consent. I have objected to the shift change verbally & in writing. It effected my diabetes control, resulting in complications where I had to take almost a month off from work to try & get stabilized. Work has not responded to the official letter sent to them by my endocrinologist. I have been without pay for the entire time. I have searched the web for any information on how to deal with this situation, but have come up with next to nothing. I have contacted the American Diabetes Association in my area, they have referred me to a lawyer who has dealt with similar situations, but I am still not real sure as to what to do. I know that diabetics are covered under the Americans with Disabilities Act, but who sees that when an employer breaks that law they are then held responsible for the damage done?

You should check with the EEOC (Equal Employment Opportunity Commision), they are resposible for medical discrimination cases in employment. This IS in the USA, I trust? Ted Quick
