cozar vs. capoten
Question:
- Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – : At my request my doc is switching me to cozar from capoten to stop the : coughing. But I read on this list that the cozar causes fatigue. I : don’t want more of that, because I feel pretty tired now. The doc says : all the ACE inhibitors do that. : I will try the cozar, but I was wondering what the general opinion was : on the two of these. The cozar is newer, right? I already have the : beginning stages of retinopathy, I do not want kidney problems also. : Maureen Helinski I have been first on cozaar, then hyzaar(cozaar plus a diuretic) for several months now and notice no fatigue or cough. Cozaar is not an ACE inhibitor, according to my physician, but an angiotensin receptor blocker and works to relax only the blood vessels in the kidney. But what does he know??
I believe that the cozaar has decreased my hypo symptoms, however. I’ve been type 1 since 1980 and recently made a personal worst of 29 mg/dl with no symptoms. I just had to get up and go to the bathroom and realized that I couldn’t think. Normally I would have been sweating and very confused. A recent article in Diabetes Care said that a study in England showed that diabetics on ACE inhibitors were more likely to be hospitalized with hypos. Maybe that will turn out to be true for cozaar also. Man, how your mileage may vary. —
Hi gang, I’ve been on Capoten for 3 years and coughing for 3 years. I thought it was the Capoten but my Doc said it was from smoking. I went to this web site http://pharminfo.com/ and did a search on Cozaar and found this– http://pharminfo.com/pubs/msb/losartan.html I’ll get him to switch me right away. Thanks for bringing it up. Bob

I’ve been non Cozar for about 10 months now. I have not experienced any fatigue. What I do experience is intermittent loss of circulation in a couple fingers in my hands. The finger or fingers involved gets white and number for a few minutes, then goes away. It happens mostly when the air is cold. I take 10mg once a day at dinner. It has done wonders for my blood pressure which was borarderline high. At my request my doc is switching me to cozar from capoten to stop the coughing.
