Categories: Diabetics

Question:

be around a 1/4 inch long!  They look like thorns from a rose bush!   My questions are- are there other diabetics out there that have this          problem and if so- what are they doing about it and           ! D

I’m am type 2 and have been diabetic for approx 20 years now.  I have developed bone spurs on the bottom of my heals which appear to becoming worse.  I have seen the pediatrist and had xrays which show them to be around a 1/4 inch long!  They look like thorns from a rose bush!   My questions are- are there other diabetics out there that have this                 problem and if so- what are they doing about it and                 what have their doctors said about removal(of spurs)                 or other solutions? My ped. doctor has said that they don’t recommend surgery and also my endocynologist said I should walk as far as I can-  Somehow I feel that this is a recipe for very sore as well as dangerous invitation to loosing feet, and a bitter ending. -PS- I posted this earlier with slighty different wording and it went off the group (my fault) and want to thank Kathy for the response…Thanks! — Capital Technologies Integration, Inc. 604 Mission, Suite 830 San Francisco, CA 94105 Voice:  415.777.2364 Fax:    415.777.2398

I had this problem BEFORE I got diabetes.  I had an injection of something (cortisone?) in each foot, and the problem has never come back.  This may NOT be possible once you have diabetes, so please noone take this as advice; it is just what happened to me.  With all the joggers and athletes around, this ought to be a profitable enough problem to have attracted some solutions.
