Anyone using Zestril or Vasotec?

Categories: Diabetics

Question:

I was wondering if anyone is taking either Zestril or Vasatec?  I was diagnosed Type II about two years ago and take Glucophage and Glyburide.  I had a small amount of protein in urine which doc said could affect the kidneys.  Another doc told me that all diabetics should be taking either Zestril or Vasotec as it helps keep blood pressure low and keeps the kidneys healthy.  Is this true? Are these meds safe?  Has anyone had any adverse reactions when using them?  What are your thoughts on these two medications?  I really hate taking so many pills.  My doc said that it’s better to take the meds than the damage of having high blood sugar and not treating it.  Any feedback appreciated.  Thanks.

It sounds like our doctors read the same books :) I take the Glucophage & Glyburide combination. I was on Zestril, but was switched to a generic courtesy of an HMO, gotta love those idiots :(

Response:

I took vasotec for about three years for high blood pressure with no adverse reactions except for it didn’t work for me. I am now on diovan, lasix, and coreg for high bp and the cocktail of the three have my bp right on target. Hope vasotec works better for you than it did for me, Terry down here in lil ole Beebe, Arkansas

Response:

I’ve been on Zestril (Lisinopril) for 10 years for my high blood pressure.  Had no side effects that I know of. Terry

I take zestril because I have high bloodpressure which predated dabetes by 10 years. I don’t have an education equivalent to that of the doctor so I decline to comment on the "truth" your doctor gave you. Carol D.
