Why Diabetes??
Question:
I have been so busy taking care of my diabetic cat that I haven’t noticed how many others are having the same problem. Many posters mention that they discovered last spring that their cat was diabetic. We know that steroid shots for allergy or skin problems cause diabetes. Except for that, we haven’t heard another reason. Adult onset diabetes is caused by damage to the pancreas, usually from being very overweight. This should not be a major problem with cats I wonder is the shots that we got for Kiki last June were the cause of his illness. He got the usual rabies, and other shots that are recommended. How many other cat owners got their pets inoculated just before the diabetes was diagnosed??

He’d been vaccinated last December 95, and has never had steroid shots. He was grossly obese though. He weighed 16 lbs and should have been 11 lbs. I had two other cats at the time who were so frail and unasertive that they were becoming skeletally thin and letting him steal all their food. Freefeeding was the only way these cats could get enough to sustain themselves. I knew Buster’s weight was bad for him, but I decided one fat cats was better than two starving ones, especially since his behavior was the cause of the conflict.
