Thanks Lara…that explains a lot……still quite a way to go yet then. Huggzzzz Julie xxx – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Well done Julie!! 7.3% is excellent it equates to an average BG of 8.8 compared to 9.2% which is 12.0 (check out this link and it will help you to understand http://www.geocities.com/diabeteschart/intlbgchart.html ) Glad to hear you got the strips too  :o)  !! Sounds like an excellent day all around! Lara

Sounds like an excellent day all around! Lara – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -Went to see the practice nurse this morning and she was very pleased with my progress. My Blood Tests had come back …..I don’t really understand what these are but the results were … 21/5/02 Hb A1c 9.2% 15/7/02 Hb A1c 7.3% So that was improved :o ) As for the test strips, I told her I would feel more in control (not obsessed) if I could test at least 4 times a day and not 2 as she said was adequate last time.  She said thats fine, no problem and increased my test strips accordingly (3 x 50)  So as long as the doctor signs the prescription I’ll be fine. Oh I had lost some weight too and my blood pressure was fine…hallelujah !!! Huggzzz Julie xxx

I’ve had a quick look at this link and I have to disagree with some of the info there. The HbA1c is "conceptually" an "average" of your recent blood sugars, over a period of roughly 3 months, but there is no way you can put a numerical equivalency to a certain HbA1c with respect to blood glucose. You certainly cannot derive a "formula" which says HbA1c of, say 7.3% equates to a b.g of 8.8 (whatever that might mean!).  The general info on "what is the importance of HbA1c" on these pages is generally accurate however.

A recent thread on alt.support.diabetes (A question about my 4.6 HbA1c) says much the same thing about relating HbA1c to bg measurements. — Chris De-* virgin for e-mail reply
