Question:
THIS REVISED POSTING IS ISSUE FOR CORRECTION OF : ILLEGIBLE SHOULD HAVE READ ELIGIBLE
This posting is issue for correction of : illegible should have read eligible I have read your reply. At first it appears that you may have a point… This issue on life supporting drug has awaken me!!! Correct me if I am wrong and do not hesitate to let me know if the following do not reflect reality in Canada In Canada, If you have lived a monogamous life, brought up and educated a family, managed to buy a house, a car and have abide by the laws of society and pay your taxes. When you reach the age of fifty five and cannot find work or are not eligible for a pension or welfare support how to you get your insulin??? On the other hand, in Canada, if you have lived a promiscuous live, managed to have society to take care of your children and enjoy life to the fullest, at fifty five if you cannot find work you are illegible for welfare support including insulin. In Canada, should have decided not to abide by the laws of society and get arrested, not to worry, the government will paid for your meals, education, drug (insulin) rehabilitation and you may be eligible for a pension and a supplement. How will the future generation view this. Will this contribute to society changes??? Denis M – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -Sorry, forgot to include document. If I owned a house and a car and I needed insulin, my priority would be to sell the house and car and buy insulin. I am not writing this in a callous tone; I do empathise with the original poster’s dilemma. Even with insurance, I have to pay $ 10 copayment, so my monthly cost is $ 20. I am sure I could buy mail order for the same cost without insurance. Good luck.

Has he tried contacting the manufacturer? I have heard that sometimes if you contact the company and explain the situation they are willing to help, not sure if this company will…but it’s worth a try. Kathy

Im guessing that unless your brother is of fairly advanxced age, he was denied assistance by medicaid, not medicare. Eligibility requirements for Medicaid, within fairly broad federal limits are established by each, individual state and vary significantly from state to state (despite Clinton’s claims that Medicare shouln’t be turned over to the states because the "safty net" it provides should be uniform). There are particularly great differences in the area of what type and level of assets will result in denial of coverage. To get an idea of what the requirements for his state are and to review whether he is eligible or might be able to become eligible, he may wish to consult an attorney or some other agency acquainted with his states rules. Senior citizens organizations and advocacy groups are often good sources of such knowledge since Medicare doesn’t cover nursing home care and many seniors have the misfortune to have to deal with the same problem (ownership of a home or other assets making them ineligible). Unfortunately, attribution rules often make it difficult to adjust the title & ownership of such assets to avoid disqualification, once the need for such assistance is immanent. If, upon review, medicad isn’t an option, the best bet may be to contact your state’s social services agency (ies). If your brother happens to be a veteran, veteran’s organizations may also be a possibile source of assistance or guidance to such a source. If, by any chance, your brother’s inability to regain employment is caused by his diabetes or other disability he might also seek supplemental social security coverage, though from wht I’ve heard, it’s difficult for a diabetic to get a positive eligibility determination absent extremely severe complications. A final possibility might be to check with local/state non-profit organizations and professional organizations for possible assistance or guidance to the same Sorry that I can’t be of more help. Being dependant on medication for my very life, I’ve wondered what I would do if faced with no insurance and the financial inability to obtain insulin etc. Certainly, it’s one of the more compelling arguements for a national health care system. Good luck!
