Question:

– Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – A neighbor has a 5-yr-old male wire fox terrier. He has a recurring problem which seems to re-appear sporadically. The last occurence was in August and he now exhibits the problem again in early October. The symptoms are … – behavior agitation, most notable at night – increased thirst – increased urination – disorientation after urination He has been tested for diabetes and is free. The condition has been treated with Antirobe, but continues to re-occur. This dog is a companion for a mature couple in our neighborhood and is quite troubling for all of the reasons that you can imagine. I would also add that they use a choke-chain when they walk him. I doubt if that is related, but it is a data point nonetheless. Any suggestions would be gratefully received!

The waxing/waning nature of his signs puts me in mind of hypoadernocorticism.  Has he had a urinalysis at the vet’s to rule out a urinary tract problem (infection, etc.)? Folks, Thank you very much to all of you who replied to my posting below. I have shared the many responses with my neighbor who owns the dog. The vet now say that the dog has a borderline case of Cushings Disease plus he has confirmed a urinary tract disease and linked it to E. coli. In any case, the kind feedback opened up new areas to test, so the neighbors are quite grateful. Regards, Gary – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Greetings!
