Good data seems hard to find. There is an interesting paper on morality ratios by an insurance underwriting company at: http://www.Inrc.com/ep/rr/issues/148/148_5.htm The information is not exactly in the form one would wish, but it is interesting and a little scary. — Charly Coughran

All research shows that the tighter your BG control, the better your chances of avoiding diabetic complications. Even so, nothing in life is certain. You could get hit by a bus tomorrow. All research shows that the tighter your BG control, the better your chances of avoiding diabetic complications. Even so, nothing in life is certain. You could get hit by a bus tomorrow. Not quite. The DCCT found that some complications don’t much seem to be affected by how tight you control and the incidence of HYPOS in the test (Tight Control) group was, 300% higher than in the control group even with super tight medical monitoring. Hypoglycemia is a potentially fatal complication SHORT TERM, as even if you buy the lie that it can’t kill you direct, Should you be driving a car or otherwise engaged in an activity that requires 100% attention…. Bad things can happen when you go Hypo. Source 1: DCCT Source 2: I’m a police dispatcher, I send troopers to said accidents Source 3: Study done in England (Based on my observations no less) showing the percentage of drivers in fatal accidents found to be hypo. I think the study is flawed, (The numbers can’t possibly be that high) but still, It did show hypoglycemia was a major cause of death.
