Phen-side effects!
Question:
Have been on Phenfen for over a year, lost only 25 pounds, am happy about that but have 15 more to lose, am taking 37.5mg Phen & 2-3 20mg pondimin each day. Find my major problem to be sugar craving, and I can’t seem to lose any more weight. I’m not obese but do have an eating problem & I am suggestions. I’ll check back at this site too-thank you.

// I do think that PPH is overblown but there have been over 50 confined cases of people getting PPH while on phen-fen. There are no known confirmed cases of anyone dying. You are confusing the two.// 50 out of how many millions? Over what time period? How many people not on fen/phen got PPH in the same amount of time?
To answer a little of Jet’s question: Currently it is estimated that one in 75 American adults are taking one or more of these appetite suppression medications. What is scary is that one in 25 people in Utah are on them – they are the number one prescription in this state (data presented by a pharmacist at a seminar on Weight Mgmt in Diabetes in May). Response:
PPH is a highly overblown scare story. The # of PPH cases linked to phen/fen remains at ZERO as of this date. There is one study that suggests that the chance of getting PPH while on phen/fen is 18 in 10,000 (some accounts site a 22/10,000 rate; no one can seem to back this number up). Either is somewhat less than the chance of a woman contracting toxic shock syndrome from using tampons.

Response:
Obesity (god, I hate that term!) itself increases a person’s tendency towards PPH. I have not read the studies, but it would be interesting to know how the researchers controlled for that factor (specifically including "obese" people in the control group?). How much of the so-called risk of PPH from fen or dexfen (less than complications of penicillin or aspirin, BTW) could really be attributed to obesity? E.V. Noel
Response:
When taken alone, phentermine loses effectiveness in 4-6 weeks.
I believe Barbara Hirsch’s web page states that she only takes phentermine and it has been for some time now and she states that it controls her hunger quite well. I found only 1 person on the rx newsgroup who got PPH after taking phen fen for 5 weeks. Why does she count as zero. I don’t know if the tampon analogy is a good one because I’d rather get TSS than PPH anyday. Can I have somemore parting gifts? —

:When taken alone, phentermine loses effectiveness in 4-6 weeks. I disagree, I’ve been taking it for a few months and while the side-effects went away after about a month, the appetite suppression still seems to work. I can tell judging from how I feel when I forget to take it or go off it for a period. Phentermine also seems to help stabilize my blood sugar. — WARNING: DO NOT SEND ME JUNK EMAIL (i.e. unsolicted advertisements) or put my address on a email mailing list.
Response:
Everything I’ve heard about the conection between PPH and Phen-Fen has been attributed to the Fen and not the Phen. Has anyone heard of a link between taking Phen alone (without also taking Fen) and PPH. What, if any, are the side effects/risks associated with taking Phen (particularly Ionamin – 15mg) alone. Please let me know, if you can, by email. Thanks!
Response:
the problem is, is that phen-fen doens’t take all your extra body fat away. it’s is only good for 10 %, so if you’ve already lost that 10 %, well, start excersicing or something else.
