Question:

From Guy williams In early 1954 I ran a engineering data processing unit at a University Research unit  I used as many as 50 students that worked part time in a large room clanging away on calculators. (Monroe’s). An outstanding math professor setup a unit that had card in- card out equipment.  It was a big step forward over the manual work– it did not make mistakes. The University bought an Electrodata 205 system and in a few years they had a large computer department and offered degree programs. This increased the capabilities greatly. Now let move forward almost 50 years.  I set here trying to use a PC with little knowledge of the software.  I may forget to turn it off. I dread the thought of having to rebuild it. My question is what does this have to do with posting here. I know I do not even resemble that person I was in the mid 50’s. The first day I could get local internet service I went on here looking for DIABETES information.  I was lucky to find this group.  I was lucky to have the input of a group of very qualified people here. So I see this group differently from some people.  It is necessary that I take diabetes seriously. Your worth to me is what you post here, that is good diabetes information.  What have you done for me today? zxc

Hi Guy, I like your posts.  I’m probably a mathematical physicist so you can pigeon-hole me, (really an electrical engineer).  I’ll try to make you laugh today.  But I have the propensity to make people laugh and cry at the same time when I get rolling.  (My co-op job had Monroes all over the place.  I used a slide rule as well.  I hate HP-1000 minis with a passion and HPUX needs a dumpster ASAP.) So stick with me and we’ll have fun.  Just pick a subject like BG meters, — T1 4/86, background retinopathy, rarely HG: <1/mo. lispro+R+U+NPH daily, moderate exercise, <6% HbA1c typ.
