Friends of ours were there for several years, and it was especially hard to get their kids into picking up after themselves when the maid was right there doing it, ironing their clothes, etc. When they came back to Canada, those two kids ( by this time teen-agers) had some really awful Habits to break ; they had become extremely lazy & self-indulgent . It hit them pretty hard to be tossed into the Culture here. — Oh, yes. We are trying our best to keep him connected with the real world ;-} For example, he stands in front of the fridge, and yells (not nastily, just loud) for the maid to get him some apple juice. Great, huh? We are very fortunate to have a maid who is intelligent enough to know when to obey the young master and when to chastise him. She can also trick our son pretty well. With the example of apple juice: She comes to the fridge and asks DS to pick the carton of juice he wants. She says "Oh, that’s what you want.". Then she asks him to get a glass from the cupboard, and again is surprised at his selection. Then she tells him to pour the juice because he’s the only one who knows how much he wants. And, voil
