looking for a new insulin pen
Question:
BTW – I haven’t bought a cart in a year – I recharge mine with humalog from a 1000 unit bottle with a syringe. I figure I’m saving a couple of bucks a month that way…..
I used to do that as well. There’s a huge difference in price between the cartridges & vials. I know have health insurance with a drug plan, so I’ve been getting the cartridges all the time. The pharmacy was able to order the 1.5 ml Humalog cartridges for me so I’m okay for now. Liz

- Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Does anyone have the Novo Pen 3? Can I use the 3ml Humalog carts in it, or will it only with with Novo’s own insulins? Also, does it take the B-D pen needles (Ultra Fine)? I wish B-D would just make a new pen that holds the 3ml cartridges, and also retains all the features of their current pens (1/2 unit increments, although whole units are really no problem – just don’t want to have to dial up in two’s all the time). Liz I use the Novopen 3 and it will shoot in 1 unit increments. The only carts I have are the Novolog Penfill 3ml carts. The needle screws directly onto the cart so I don’t know if the BD needles would work. Once, I got the wrong carts (1.5ml) and the screw area for the needle looked much smaller. Now watch me get flamed for doing that…oh well. Ken
BD needles fit just fine on both NovoRapid and Humalog. Novo needles will fit both too. I’ve used the Humapen in the past and use a Pen3 now. I like the Pen3 better, it seems to be sturdier and I find it easier to push the plunger. I don’t notice much difference in action between NovoRapid (Novolog) and Humalog except NovoRapid has a tiny bit shorter action for me. Filling cartridges from a vial is a common practice for those economizing. Don’t think you’ll get much grief over that – but you never know around here

Mack said this… Does anyone have the Novo Pen 3? Can I use the 3ml Humalog carts in it, or will it only with with Novo’s own insulins? don’t know about that, I’ve only used novolog with the novopen 3. Novo cartridges only.
I suspect the 3ml Humalog cartridges will also fit the Disetronic p100 pen (That is not the pen most people associated with Disetronic, in fact it is a very creature in the USA.) – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – They have a screw thread on the cartridge, not on the pen itself. Thanks for the replies. I brought the empty box from my 1.5ml Humalog cartridges to the pharmacy and they said they would order it. I wouldn’t mind a new pen but I’d rather not have to switch insulins, since I’m used to Humalog. Liz

The novopen 3 will not take the humalog 3 cartridges, neither will the Induo, which I love because of the memory feature. I squirt the humalog into the novolog cartridges. I also still use the novopen 1.5 with humalog 1.5 cartridges, which is nice because it is smaller. Maureen

– Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – About 5 or 6 years ago I ordered two B-D Mini pens. They hold the 1.5ml cartridges and you can dial up to 15 units, in half unit increments. A couple of years ago one of them cracked so I’ve been using my backup pen. I’ve sometimes had trouble getting the 1.5ml Humalog cartridges filled. I just started going to a pharmacy right by my job and they didn’t have them, only the 3ml carts. The pharmacist kept giving me weird looks when I told her what I use. I’m pretty sure she doesn’t believe such a thing exists (Humalog 1.5ml carts). I was thinking I should just get a new pen that holds the bigger cartridges. I found the B-D site, but they only show two pens and they’re both like the one I already have. I found an online diabetic supplies store (clicked a link from the B-D site) that shows pens from other companies but there’s not much info on them. The Novo pen and the Autopen hold the 3.0 carts but it looks like you have to inject a minimum of 2 units, and often I only want 1 unit to correct a slightly high BG reading. Oh, and I just noticed the Autopen will only dose in increments of 2 units, so that’s out for sure. Does anyone have the Novo Pen 3? Can I use the 3ml Humalog carts in it, or will it only with with Novo’s own insulins?

the novopen dials up in 1 unit increments. any pharmacy can order the 1.5s for you. My local ones will do it, they say they do all the time for people just like you.
