Question:

My husband is from India, I eat indian food all the time but guess at the points mia is there a weight watchers there ? Margo

Response:

Hiya Margo, I don’t think so – I just checked the Weight Watchers site and India isn’t an option from the "select your country" list. I assume that means they don’t have offices there. Since Indian food is so big over here in the UK, I find that there are listings for tons of dishes in our books. Maybe try to get hold of some UK material and see if that lists more dishes for you. Alternatively, if you just need a hand looking up something once in a while, just give a shout here and we’ll do our best to find the point value for you in our books. On the other hand, if you’re making the Indian food, can you not work out the point values for the dishes by looking up the individual ingredients? It’s a pain, I know. Then again, once you’ve worked out the point totals, you don’t have to keep doing it every time you make the dish. Cheers, Petal

Hi Margo! Petal is right, there is no WW in India. They need to have a sufficiently large customer base to start operations in a new country. India has a lot of overweight people and the adult onset diabetes is a severe problem here. However, the average disposable income is still too low for people to invest in WW, and consequently for WW to invest in India. There are a lot of "quick fix" places in Bangalore, though. These are beauty parlors that offer all kinds of slimming services. I have absolutely no intention of setting foot in one! Mia
