Is "mcoon" still around here???

Question:

Oh, and for the regulars: this is a one-off visit, cos the amount of trolling crud out here is depressing :-(

I find the trolls easy enough to filter/killfile. It’s that the regulars who seem to have a mission to keep the trolls well-fed I’m having trouble with since many of their articles I would otherwise wish to read. They _really_ want attention and if you insist on giving it to them, they will just stay. B/

Hi Dr. Bennet, I wanted to say thanks so much for taking the time to answer me. I know prednisone is serious stuff, but darn did it work well. Best Wishes – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – I had a question about the immune system that he or maybe bennet could answer. The doc put me on 30mg/day prednisolone 10mg 3x/day. If I took this for a week how long will it take for my immune system to bounce back to normal. Or will it be impaired at all from the short course. I tried to search for an answer but could not find anything. Hi there, 30mg/day for a week isn’t all that bad, but it will have a minor effect on your immune system.  Someone on that level for a long time (months) would I think be more susceptible to the various side effects of steroids such as diabetes, infections, poor clotting etc, so perhaps you can assume you’d go a short way along that path with a week’s course. I don’t know for sure, but from my (limited) time on the wards and speaking to various medics I’d think that a week or two after completely finishing the course you could expect your immune system to be back to normal.  There are people who happily trundle along on 100mg a day or more for months without showing signs of immune dysfunction beyond that needed to control the relevant disease – but of course not everyone’s like that. In short, I would be surprised if you noticed any kind of "impairment" in terms of increased risk of infections during that week, and any kind of effect I’d expect to disappear within 2 weeks.  Steroids are a relatively good anti-inflammatory due to their reasonable effect at controlling disease without impairing normal function.  Non-steroidals aren’t as powerful, cytotoxics are sometimes _too_ powerful. IANAD ;-) Oh, and for the regulars: this is a one-off visit, cos the amount of trolling crud out here is depressing :-( Hello to all my mates! Cheers Bennett
