Insulin Pump Sites
Question:
Thank Mack, I have complete the procedures and used the thigh site and found I actually got better bg’s. What a time that was with the upper GI with small bowel follow through. Twisting and turning and all positions I thought I could never get in. Taped the pump to my calf during all this stuff and it worked. Now I have to do a gastroscopy as they found some esophageal strictures etc. Next round of fun. Isn’t it bad enough just to have DM? Thanks again, Maris – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – the following madness into the void: Hi, I have been using the pump now for about 3 months. This week I will undergo several procedures. Stress Echo and a Upper GI with small bowel study. The stress echo and the Xray techs want my pump inserted on my thigh so it isn’t in the way. What is the absorbtion rate at this site? Are there any problems using this area. I have used the stomach this whole time and it is very sore anyway so a change would be good. Do I change the amount in the basal rate when it is in another site? Now I have to figure how to keep the pump on my thigh or perhaps even in a sock during the exams. It was a lot easier with N and R but I got no control. Thanks, Maris the absorption rate is a little slower but not enough to change the basal rate. You can just make a few minor correction boluses until you switch back to your stomach area. I use a thigh pouch, you can purchase them from Minimed. I use the thigh pouch while sleeping and for daily use even when the pump is in my stomach.
