=Help!  I’m thin, active, healthy, and I’ve never had a weight problem or =ugly head 15 months ago. = =       The Joslin Diabetes Manual describes it perfectly: = =       "Another condition sometimes found in people who have had a =marked improvement in blood glucose control is "insulin edema" =(swelling).  This is seen more often in younger individuals and is more =common in females.  It is characterized by puffiness, due to fluid =accumulation, most commonly around the ankles, but elsewhere as well.   =Although the fluid amounts are often minimal, the swelling can be =frightening." =       =       Yes, frightening it is!!  I used to wake up around 4 AM to pee, =and now I don’t get up at all in the night and when I do get up I don’t =even feel the urge to pee.  I can only sometimes manage to jam my =wedding ring on my finger.  I’ve gained 4 lbs while eating less to try =to counteract it.  My calves feel like they’re gonna burst when I first =climb out of bed in the morning and put weight on them.   = =       And, yes!, my blood sugar is in excellent contol…is this what =I get for good diabetes management?!!!     What a revolting development! You don’t know the half of it!  Well, maybe you do know the half of it.  The other half is that edema is also one of the complications of uncontrolled diabetes. = Anybody out there going thru the same horror? =                       (misery) needs company,   cindy    :=) I’m not.  I had the edema before getting my diabetes under control.  Does that count? I  try  very  hard  to say exactly what I mean.  I’d appreciate it if you’d bear that in mind and not try to "interpret"  my  posts  to  fit  your  own preconceived notions if I’m posting in a serious thread.  Remember:  If you throw a strawman into a heated debate, flames are likely to be the result.
