Question:
Hi Michael, It sounds like you might be slipping into depression again. Some of the symptoms you mention are classic. Have you thought about contacting your Doctor or a Mental Health Professional about these things? They might be able to help you with medications and/or counseling. Good luck. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – I’ve been a diabetic for eleven years. Diagnosed when I was ten and did wonderful at first. At 13 I went through a depression, DKA 10 times, once my mother and father had to carry me in to the ER because I was that out of it, I got through it and did really well, for a time. Now I am 21 (still dont drink) and am having so many problems. I work in an office job now so no more daily two hours of basketball. I have gained too much weight. I smoke. Can’t get motivated. Trying to set things right….but fear I am slipping back into despair. Just don’t know where to turn for just….lost. I’ve been a diabetic for eleven years. Michael, When we saw your note we felt a need to reply. My 13 year old daughter was diagnosed with diabetes 1 1/2 years ago. It was such a shock and a very hard adjustment. As a parent you love your child with all your heart and wish you could take this away from them but as reality strikes you have to face it and learn to live with it. She does fairly well (as her doctor says). She has a good attitude in dealing with her diabetes and tries hard. Michael I don’t really know what to tell you except to remind you that you are also loved by your parents, you are important and that you are the one solely responsible for your life. The choices you make can either guarantee you a healthy life or shorten it immensly. It is so important to take care of yourself. Please remember that you are loved, prayer works, and that you can be given strength to make the right choices with your life and with your diabetes. Best wishes, Tauna & Josie
