Finally….
Question:
The Idle Plucker said…. Yes, four years after being diagnosed and I finally have an appointment at the diabetic clinic in sunny Manchester next Monday.
Which one? There are about seven… Fortunately, the huge amount of support and information sourced in this group has helped me prepare for the forthcoming ordeal (I think). Trouble is, I’ve got a gig that evening, so I’m hoping they’re not going to do anything too outrageous that might stop me playing (and seeing the road well enough to drive there, and the music well enough to play when I get there).
They will probably do the eye drops so think about either 1. not driving 2. take some good sunglasses for after Ratty — All killer no filler ratty at flyingrat.net New webthingy is www.flyingrat.net

Have to see what they do about my current regime, though. Hi Pat, I’m too new to all this Diabetes stuff to offer any advice but good luck with the appointment. I am a musician too and so far (touch wood) have been OK for rehearsals and gigs with my food (going for jacket potato or pasta for carbs a couple of hours before playing), have you had any difficulties or have you got any good advice. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Yes, four years after being diagnosed and I finally have an appointment at the diabetic clinic in sunny Manchester next Monday. MRI? Well if you’ve not been before it’s right next to St Marys baby hospital. Unless it’s moved it is in a fairly old building. I’m surprised they didn’t refer you to Stepping Hill’s clinic. Ratty — All killer no filler ratty at flyingrat.net New webthingy is www.flyingrat.net

Hi Andy, Yes, I have problems. Sometimes I’ll need to leave the house before 6, and won’t get back till 1 or later next morning. Obviously, I take sandwiches to sustain me. Tried bananas but they spike me and I can never find anywhere to put the skin. The other thing is if I have to hump gear up loads of stairs etc., it’s going to drop my levels, but I mostly don’t know that till I get there. I spike easily, so I can’t "pre-load" too much even on low GI food. I usually have a Kit-Kat on my amp (although they are increasingly too severe for me) and test either when I feel ropey or about 3-4 hours after my evening meal just to check whether I’m going to last the night, particularly if I have to drive home a long way. I’m T2 on metformin, so in theory I shouldn’t get hypos, but nobody seems to have explained that to my body. When I get into the lower 4s and below I get very wobbly – I know these aren’t hypos so much as poor tolerance of low levels, and I am getting more used to them as I pull my average BG down. Still don’t want one driving home after midnight, though!

I rang them and asked about eye drops, but when I told them I’d had a recent (diabetic) eye test in Stockport, plus had the full deal from RMI (central cirrus retinopathy) they said there would be no need for the drops. Of course, I didn’t get that tattooed on my backside in triplicate, so I may end up sitting in the car park for a few hours staring at the roof… — Pat, the Idle Plucker That’s idlepluckerATntlworldDOTcom to me mates Old guitarists never die… They just pluck off
