Deceptive labeling
Question:
I was just about to ask if sauerkraut is ok on low-carb. I was happy to see 1g next to carbohydrates on the label. Then I looked up the label to see that one serving is 2 Tablespoons! They consider a 32oz bag of kraut 30 servings. Who eats 2 Tablespoons of sauerkraut as a serving??? Crud! Mike 250/245/179 Atkins since 10/13/99
Response:
Check some of the more reputable Carb counters such as Netzers. there are some carbs but not really that many as I am hoping you will be pleasantly surprised. Cheryl Atkins/PP Combo 6/25/99 186/162.5/120
Response:
According to the USDA database, sauerkraut, per cup, is 6.078 carbs, 3.550 fiber. If you subtract the fiber, it’s only 2.528 per cup! – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -I was just about to ask if sauerkraut is ok on low-carb. The carbs in cabbage are mostly fiber, however, it is possible that the saurkraut you bought has added sugar. Netzer and other food counters are useful, but you must still look at the ingredient list of any processed food to see if it includes extra sugars including sorbitol, corn syrup, maltose, dextrose, galactose, lactose, etc. If it does, the count may be higher than the count for the generic item. –Jenny The Low Carb for Diabetes Bulletin Board http://server3.ezboard.com/blowcarbfordiabetes
