Most antibiotics only affect certain mouth organisms. Some times the use of antibiotics can result i n severe moiuth problems instead of helping. Bacteria that are senstive to antibiotics not the only living critters in our system. Due to high sugar levels, the diabetic is prone to chronic fungus and yeast infections. Compromised immunity may be a problem too. Some doctors know how to deal with these problems. I seems that some consider these problems as a minor issue. Find the correct doctor that will treat the problem. I lost a leg because a fungus infection in the big toe provided an entry point for an osteomylitis infection.
Response:
Yes, you can take antibiotics for gum infections. However one should consult with their dentist for the appropriate antibiotics. There are many types of bacteria responsible for gum/tooth infections. Some dentists are now doing bacterial culture testing. This will tell them exactly what bacteria you have in excess and the appropriate antibiotic that should be given. Bad gums=difficult diabetes control–poor diabetes control=bad gums it’s all related……get thee to a dentist and heed his/her advice. Diabetes and/or periodonat (gum) disease does not mean you need to lose your teeth. Good luck in your dental care. Joan-just another dental hygienist….who happens to have worked in a gum specialty office for the past 20 years. I’ve yet to see the worst gums in history. (except perhaps those half pieces of Wrigleys Doublemint covered in lint and hard as a rock, left in my mothers coat pocket for 3-4 seasons)
