a question from a new member to the list-asking a question for my mother

Categories: Diabetes

Question:

She has a friend, a man in his 50’s, who is diabetic and recently broke his arm, and the break (three weeks later) is not healing-it is my mother’s understanding that one of the problems in diabetes is that the smaller blood vessels on the extremities suffer from a clogging (I am not sure if that is the right word) that is similar in effect to hardening of the arteries, which restricts blood flow-what she wants to know is if there is any therapy, homiopathic or dietary regime that can help to improve circulation in a diabetic. I am sorry that I do not have the particulars (treatment, BG levels) but if those are needed, I can try and find them out. Thank you advance to any help on this subject-

I think there are too many variables here for anyone to give you a decent answer — your mother’s friend should discuss it with his doctor.  High blood sugar impedes healing in general, so any kind of injury to your body is going to heal more slowly if your bgs aren’t in order.  And I’ve read that the blood does indeed "thicken" if there is excess glucose in it.  But also, the process of the disease diabetes (as opposed to just merely the presence or absence of excess glucose) increases the likelihood of developing arteriosclerosis and/or artherosclerosis (sp?). Any kind of health regime would depend on all of those factors, including what other kinds of meds he’s on, his other medical problems, and so on.  I would not recommend AT ALL trying homeopathic or alternative remedies until or unless he actually knows what he’s dealing with; it could be potentially very dangerous.

Greetings All- This looks like a very informative newsgroup, so I will through out my question to see if anyone may have an answer. My mother does not have internet access, so I am posting this question on her behalf.
