24 Years Insulin Dep…Rezulin now?

Categories: Diabetes

Question:

I noted one note on this newsgroup that referred to the high cost of rezulin…how much does it cost? I would appreciate any input from anyone who has anything to offer in the way of advice. Thanks in advance. Paul From AARP the cost is about $3 per tablet.

Which size? I understand it comes in 200 and 400 mg tablets. NOTICE: The e-mail address is deliberately incorrect. Replace the ISP with "nwpacifica.net."

Response:

I understand many endos’ prescribing Rezulin to Type Is’.. The thought is to lessen the insulin requirements.  With Type Is’ as with Type IIs’ the tissue resistance to insulin is prevalent. Rezulin is meant to counter act that resistance and possibly deter the hardening of the arteries. You appear to be a Type 1, if I understand your message, and I doubt you have insulin resistance, since the doses you list loo like nominal basic necessity level to me. So I guess the question is "Why try it?" Ted Quick

I have been insulin dependant for 24 years and have maintained good control…my insulin usage is not a large amount, 22N+2R in the morning, 6R at supper and 1N at bedtime. I have managed to avoid many of the typical problems associated with insulin dependant diabetes. My physician, a well known endocrinoligist, suggested on my last visit that I might be able to use rezulin to control my sugar levels. Has anyone had any experience with making a change such as this? My doctor said that very close monitoring of the situation would need to be taken as I make this change to assure that it will work and to know what is happening to my condition.
