sugar in urine ?
Question:
Dear Sir, Take any such step only on the prescription of a Diabetic Physician. Insulin therapy is mainly meant for patients diagnosed with type I diabetes. If you are a non diabetic or suffering for type II then undue lowering BG by insulin shots could put you in a diabetic coma which might be near fatal. Regards.
It’s probably a good thing you’re not revealing your name. As it is, revealing your ignorance is quite enough. Diabetic coma is NOT a result of low bg (hypoglycemia), it is a possible result of sustained HIGH bg (hyperglycemia). You have no business posting advice in a diabetes newsgroup if you don’t know even this elementary distinction. Laurie, If you can still move, get your doctor FAST. Sure sounds like the onset of diabetes, judging from what you’ve written. I’m not an M.D., but I am a diabetic, and those BG levels are astronomical. If they’re correct, you need treatment NOW. Not tomorrow. John Carroll – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Can anyone help me figure this out, I have, for about 1 week, been very tired.Unable to get up before lunch time.Eating alot of food, always feeling like I`ve not eaten anything.I do not have diabetes, but did have non insulin dependant borderline diabetes when I was pregnant.(3 years ago)I have gone to have my blood tested every years since then,no diabetes.I thought of this and decided to test my urine for keytones.I have tested 2x in the oast 3 hours, the first test said ,no keytones but the glucose was at 56mmol,the second test was at 112mmol.Does anyone know what could be happening . Has this happened to anyone before ? Should i be contacting my doctor ? Thanks for listening, Laurie

Hey guys, settle down – she’s talking about her urine glucose levels, not blood glucose! Thank God you aren’t medicos! LOL. Laurie, don’t panic, you may well have developed diabetes, but just see your doctor and get a blood glucose test done first.
Oooops. I messed up on that one. However, the _urine_ sugar levels are high enough that she should get to the doctor ASAP. John Carroll

Hi Laurie — I’ld call your dr and *get your fasting BG checked*. With those BGs as high as they are, I’ld *suspect* your beta cells have finally worn out. BTW, there is no such thing as a "borderline diabetic." You’ve either "got it" or you don’t. Sound like you’ve *got it*, sorry to say. have read that I advised medical treatment and emergency room care first. If that was not an option, then the the following step should "be considered and done on one’s own accord" with a warning. So get off your caps lock and get a life. I have been diabetic long enough (18 years) to know what’s necessary in an emergency. — BJD – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – If this is not an option and you have some Humalog or Regular nearby (you can get Regular over the counter at the corner drugstore, but you will need a syringe), consider injecting 30 units (1/3cc) or more and continue monitoring glucose levels. Do this on your own accord, because 1/3cc of fast acting insulin could knock you out or kill you if your readings were incorrect and were really in mg/dl. MY GOD! ARE YOU A DOCTOR OR JUST A MISGUIDED QUACK – THIS SOUNDS LIKE YOU ARE ATTEMPTING TO PRACTICE MEDICINE AND PRESCRIBE OVER THE INTERNET! DOING WHAT YOU HAVE DONE IS BOTH DANGEROUS AND PROBABLY A VIOLATION OF LAW SOMEPLACE! PLEASE DO NOT PRACTICE MEDICINE LONG DISTANCE ON THE INTERNET IF YOU KNOW WHAT IS GOOD FOR YOU!

No, diabetic coma results from too high a blood sugar. Been there, done that. Diabetic shock occurs from too low a blood sugar, and if persistent, a comatose- like state will result, but ‘diabetic coma’ refers to the state induced by ketoacidosis, ie resulting form lack of insulin. And if you read my initial post (2 posts back), 1/3 cc of fast acting insulin isn’t all that much. I do it every day in typically 2 doses. But it should be enough to keep someone from an extremely high bg 672mg/dl-1344mg/dl from passing out before getting to a doctor. When I was at 1150mg/dl, I was pulled out of a diabetic coma with 2 full IV bags of regular insulin pumping into each arm. So any of you goody-2- shoe-play-it-safe-and-do-nothing shmucks, that condemn 1/3cc of insulin in a diabetic about to comatose, can take a hike. Also, insulin can be taken by non-diabetics as long as they are careful not to O.D. Body builders use if frequently. I personnally have injected 5 units into a non-diabetic. He gained some energy and ate a lot of food. 30 units (1/3cc) isn’t all that much. Unless the user has completely screwed up his bg measurements and is really on the low end of normal 56 mg/dl, takes 30 units of regular, doesn’t eat anything, and doesn’t monitor bg, then he could go into shock. If left unattended, possibly death, but not likely. The liver does have an emergency supply of glycogen to release. This often pulls us real diabetics out of sleep long enough to get the fridge and down some juice. — BJD
