Should I be worried?
Question:
I haven’t been ignoring his attempts. I took the test within a week of him scheduling the test. The problem was I did not give him the original test results until 2-3 weeks ago. As I said in a previous message I am on regular health plan and have had the same primary Dr for 12 years. This is the first time in taking these blood test that I have had a abnormal result. The funny (strange) thing is that this may explain some of the feeling I have had in the last 3 months. I remember feeling light headed and almost passing out just standing inline for lunch. BTW, if I do have Type 2 diabetes can that affect my running? that is will I still be able to run? I’ve done several marathons and would like to continue. dennis P.S. I originally sent this under my pica.army.mil address, my home address is runningpage.com. dennis – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – I’ve been taking a comprehensive blood test every summer for the past 10 years. Up until my test in July, my glucose level has been between 90-122. My test this year showed 209. My doctor had me take a 14 hour fasting test this last Wednesday with a followup visit on Tuesday. Dennis, Oh my goodness, for a second there I though I was in total agreement with Ted, that’s scary. Almost but not completely, after thinking about it I realized that he and I might have jumped the gun again. I need to ask you one more question. Have you been ignoring your doctor’s attempts to get you back in for more tests? If so, shame on you, if not, I’m with Ted find another doctor. I noticed you have a military email address, are you in the service? If the military doctors I was seeing the years before I was identified as diabetic knew what they were doing I might not have as many problems as I do now. I didn’t understand it at the time but I learned I was diabetic from an enlisted technician when she asked if I had stopped taking my meds because the sugar content of my urine sample was so high. I told her I wasn’t on any kind of medication. At the time she wrote something in my records but the doctors didn’t say boo to me until months later when I went back in for a cut that wasn’t healing. I realize I probably have a problem with blood sugar. the question I have is this something that can wait for a few days (Tuesday) or is it something that I should get immediate attention. dennis —

Actually, I got the results back in July and gave them to him at my next visit which was 3 weeks ago. As soon as he saw them he ordered the test. My next visit is on Tuesday but He prescribed glucotron last night which I will start taking tomorrow. the test I took is a general test which I have had high reading for other things and promptly shown him. I see him every three months. It turns out I got the initial lab results the week after I saw him. FWIW, I am a federal employee not military (I am in the reserves). My health plan is Blue cross/Blue Shield. dennis

He should have been doing something about it, at LEAST by August. I’ve been taking a comprehensive blood test every summer for the past 10 years. Dennis, These numbers are no great honor. The American Diabetes Association states the following: Fasting Plasma Glucose Test The fasting plasma glucose test is the preferred way to diagnose diabetes. It is easy to perform and convenient. After you have fasted overnight (at least 8 hours), a single sample of your blood is drawn at the doctor
