Newsletter: You May Never Need To Be Sick Again!
Question:
You May Never Need To Be Sick Again! Nutritionist claims healthy cells in your body do not become diseased. Proper diet plus exercise builds powerful immune system sufficiently strong to fight off and destroy any bacterial, fungal or viral invaders that threaten your body. Diabetics: Don’t be fooled; be very careful of these sorts of ads. You have an immune-deficiency disease. Specifically, your body has a complicated assortment of less than sufficient genes. You cannot change your genes!

However, *Type II* diabetes is not infectious. *Type I* seems to be an *auto-immune* problem, an attack on your own beta cells by your own immune system. Therefore, strengthening the immune system would potentially make the problem develop even faster. Now, the infections are prone to are a different problem, usually associated with neuropathy, vascular problems, and immune systems weakened by high blood sugars: "proper diet" in that case, if it was part of controlling blood sugar, might help. But that’s about it, and certainly not what the original poster was saying. Nico Garcia My opinions are my own, not MIT’s or my employer’s or my cat’s (Well, maybe my cat’s….)

For example, there’s some evidence that a coxsackie virus infection can trigger the onset of Type I diabetes. Suppose the mechanism by which this occurs is that folks predisposed to Type I diabetes lack an immune response which normal people have, that that immune response would be the body’s normal reaction to a coxsackie infection, and that it’s a secondary response, which wouldn’t normally come into play which ends up destroying the beta cells. If one could somehow get that primary immune response operative in the person predisposed to Type I diabetes, then one would lessen the likelihood that an infection would trigger onset. =Now, the infections are prone to are a different problem, usually =associated with neuropathy, vascular problems, and immune systems =weakened by high blood sugars: "proper diet" in that case, if =it was part of controlling blood sugar, might help. = =But that’s about it, and certainly not what the original poster =was saying. Agreed. I try very hard to say exactly what I mean. I’d appreciate it if you’d bear that in mind and not try to "interpret" my posts to fit your own preconceived notions if I’m posting in a serious thread. Remember: If you throw a strawman into a heated debate, flames are likely to be the result.
