Is there any airborne allergen or toxic chemical that you might be breathing in? Have you tried a multivitamin to eliminate a simple vitamin deficiency as the cause? Have you eliminated any drugs/vitamins you are taking to make sure the hives aren’t a side effect? —

Hello I’ve had horrible all-over-my-body hives for about six weeks… they get worse with exercise, but I’m not willing to give up my daily walk. …Any suggestions? From my own experience with hives, the only thing I found that worked was the prescription drug Seldane….
During/after a case of systemic strep, I had hives which would worsen after exersize. They’d also disappear by morning, by be back by evening. I had been on penicillin, and my chiropractor suggested that this, possibly in conjunction with the strep, had killed off essential bacteria in my colon, which he said was at the root problem of my hives. He gave me Lactobaccilli A&B (non-prescription). After having had weeks and weeks of hives, they went away within two days of taking this stuff, and haven’t returned. Hope this helps. … Rick

Hello I’ve had horrible all-over-my-body hives for about six weeks. I felt worse and was not helped by steroid treatments and antihistamines (Benadryl, and then hydroxyzine). So now I’m getting acupuncture treatments and am on a clearing diet with food supplements, no gluten, no dairy, mostly just rice & vegetables. I still have the hives rather badly. they get worse with exercise, but I’m not willing to give up my daily walk. So my questions is this: Does anybody know of a relatively natural method of relieving the itch? I’ve tried nettle (taken in capsules), camomile baths (OK, but not practical during the day), tea tree oil (helpful, but too volatile to spread over my whole body), aloe gel, and witch hazel. Nothing lasts for long, and most of these have only a minimal effect. Any suggestions? Thanks The Queen of Itch Mary

From my own experience with hives, the only thing I found that worked was the prescription drug Seldane. As my doctor told me, there is nothing you can put on your body that is going to ease the itching for long because the cause of the allergic reaction is inside your body. I never found out what I was allergic to, either, but probably it is something ingested.I didn’t want to take the Seldane at the time because I thought I might be pregnant, so believe me I tried everything else, most of the things you mentioned. Nothing worked. Seldane, which is an antihistimine but without the drowziness you get from Benzadryl, relieved the itching although I would still get welts if I ran a nail along my skin. If it’s some consolation, I think hives usually runs its course in 6-10 weeks, unless you’re still being exposed to whatever you’re allergic too. Mine lasted about 2 months, gradually fading away. No natural allergy treatment I used provided much relief. –Debra
