Type I and growth rate
Question:
- Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Has anyone here seen any information about type I or its treatment stimulating rapid growth? My daughter was diagnosed with type I three years ago at age 9. For six months after diagnosis, she did not grow at all, although she recovered weight. Since then, she has grown at a phenomenal rate; much faster than previously. We’ve kept pretty good records. She was at the 95 percentile in height for her age at diagnosis, and now she is waaaaay off the chart. My chart doesn’t even have percentiles for where she is. Her parents (me and my wife) aren’t short, but aren’t all that tall either. I’m 6′ and my wife is 5′8". If I extrapolate the curve, it looks like my daughter will end up around 6′2". I’d be curious to know if the body somehow recognizes that it is under stress and compensates with an increased supply of growth hormone. Or maybe watching diet so carefully insures good nutrition. Or maybe she was just going to be tall. Anyway, she seems to like basketball. Any thoughts?

I don’t think there’s a connection in this case since my wife family is taller than average and I’m 6.2" (185 cm). However I found an interesting note in "daibetes at your fingertips 3rd edition" (Peter S
