Strangely low BG
Question:
I have been diagnosed Type II since July and have been trying to control with diet and exercise. So far, the results are reasonably good, the readings have all been within or slightly above normal, except immediately after breakfast which were over 200 mg/dl and occasionally above 300. These high numbers drop about 1 – 1.5 per minute. Today, by necessity I had to eat out. I had 3 Italian meat balls, with cheese and on a roll. When I measured 3/4 hr. later, the reading was 54! My readings have never fall below normal before. So I repeated the measurement and the result was the same (52). What caused such low reading? Please advise. 15 minutes later, I decided to try something. I ate a small piece of chocolate. 14 minutes after that the measurement was 77.

What is your usual breakfast? If cereal… you are converting all that carbohydrate to sugar For the "average" Type2 1g carb = 3 point BG rise… I had stir fry last night with about 20g of carb in noodles… when I check later my BG was up just about 60 points, took 2-3 hours to get back down Today, by necessity I had to eat out. I had 3 Italian meat balls, with cheese and on a roll. When I measured 3/4 hr. later, the reading was 54! My readings have never fall below normal before. Over on the Glycemic Index page (I think) I saw a note to the effect that a Cheeze Pizza had a lower reading than expected (I think it was due to the effect of the cheese slowing down the effect of the crust) so it MAY be that your sandwich had that same effect GI page is found searching on http://www.mendosa.com/diabetes.htm John Thomas Smith house for sale info at http://www.pacifier.com/~tkaufman
