max weeks in induction?
Question:
I know atkins says induction should last at least 2 weeks, but does he mention an upper limit? My plan is to do it for 4 weeks total (week 4 starts on Feb 24). — Mitch Abaza

He says it’s all up to you. If you’ve got a lot of weight to lose you might want to stay at 20 carbs. If you feel you need more food choices, start the OWL phase where you increase your carbs by 5 a week and add in more choices. I plan on staying at induction levels but increasing food choices till near goal weight. You just have to find what works for you. Laura~

I’ve been at less than 20 carbs for almost 20 months and have lost 63 pounds. I plan on staying at that level until I lose about 35 or 40 more.

The good Dr says from 6 months up to a year is safe. Whether your food preferences/taste buds will let you stay at a low carb level that long is a different story. Doesn’t seem to be that hard to me right now, but I am only at week 3. I can say I’ve eaten more vegetables than I have eaten since high school (?) and cooked more delicious meals than I ever. That reminds me. People question whether Atkins food costs are more expensive than "normal" eating. As a bachelor, I’d say this way of eating is a lot cheaper than hitting fast food, 7-11 and the restaurants. -Ric P.S. Everyone is different, but Atkins also says you may want to stay on induction longer than the two weeks, or you may want to move into a little higher carbs til you find an amount that allows you to continue losing weight but eating even more types of foods. Some will stay on the diet longer (hopefully forever) with these expanded choices though losing weight slower, while some choose to sacrifice the choices to lose the weight quicker. Again, I’m only in third week, but I don’t really feel my food choices are THAT limited. Yeah, no bread, pasta and potatoes (ugh that’s almost all i ever ate, unles McD’s through in a piece of meat with it) but plenty of other good foods that I HAD been missing. (I’m on Atkins because diabetes and heart conditions run in my family, and because I was getting way carried away with fast food and sweets.) – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – I’ve been at less than 20 carbs for almost 20 months and have lost 63 pounds.
