Can you help with Induction Foods

Categories: Diabetes Diet

Question:

I am fairly new to the newsgroup.  I bought the Atkins book about 8 years ago, but at the time couldn’t afford enough meat to stay on it.  I did lose weight during the 3 weeks I managed to follow it. Now I’ve just been diagnosed with Diabetes and need to lower carbs so I am interested in starting Atkins again.  Unfortunately, my book was lost in a house fire a few years ago and our local library doesn’t have it (VERY small town).  I was planning on purchasing it the first of June when I get paid, but the massave amounts of medicine and testing supplies is going to make that impossible this month. Could sombody be kind enough to post the Carbs (if I remember right vegies) allowed during the induction phase?   I have been trying to get my carbs down but I can’t seem to get them below 70 a day no matter how hard I try. I know I am eating something I shouldn’t but can’t figure out what.   Sorry to ask this, but I really want to get started as soon as possible. Thanks, Rudy Willis

Rudy, The carbs you are eating should not be more than 20 for induction. I try to stay under 10. You can have meat, eggs, poultry, very little cheese. Also, it is important to eat fat, like mayo, butter, oil. No margarine. Most veggies are allowed if they are green, You can have a loosely packed salad, with veggies like mushrooms, peppers, olives…fill it with meat too, and full fat dressings. I am certainly no expert, and struggle with it. But if you are getting 70 carbs, you must surely be eating some type of grains or fruit. During induction, stay away from that. Also, for some people, caffeine and aspartame is a no no. A typical day for me is: 2 eggs in butter bacon or sausage ( I try to find with no sugar added) Lunch: chicken salad with full mayo on pork rinds or 2 pork chops fried in butter dinner: 12 chicken wings cooked in butter and texas pete hot sauce I drink water water water, and decaf coffee in the am. snacks are: pork rinds olives string cheese (rarely) cold hot dogs boiled eggs sardines (phew) This might be more info than you wanted, lol, but I hope it helps. Stick around, there are many experts out here, with much better menus too. I am not big on variety! Good luck! Kathy
