What is ethical???

Categories: Diabetes Cure

Question:

From the Diabetes UK E-mail Stop press: Diabetes UK awaits stem cell decision Researchers in Newcastle are the first to apply for a licence to clone human embryos for use in stem cell research to cure diabetes. The Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA) are currently assessing the application with a decision due soon. Read the full story at http://www.diabetes.org.uk/news/June04/stemcell.htm As the word embryo is rather misleading because they are planning to use eggs before they are inseminated I would have thought the question was is it right to let the living suffer or to let unused human eggs die off, rather than an ethical argument that will get the pro-lifers all worked up. I hope for once common sence prevails. DaveT

Hi Dave For a diabetic to be against stem cell research is akin to those religious groups who let their people die for want of a blood transfusion. The belief may be sincere, but there is a high price to pay. For a diabetic with cancer to be opposed would be taking it to extremes. I don’t believe in extremes. Cheers, Alan, T2 d&e, Australia. And there’s a snowballs chance in hell of that happening. Beav

It’s nothing to do with ethics IMHO, it’s just the "every sperm is sacred" attitude of the RC and fundamentalist religions which seems to spin off into distrust or even outright hatred of science amongst the scientifically sub-literate politicians and other power-mongers such as the tabloid newspaper bosses.   JPG – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -DaveT

Thanks for the reminder.  I answered seriously earlier; of course there is another side: http://www.wilken.freeserve.co.uk/Montypython/Songs/song15.htm Cheers, Alan, T2 d&e, Australia. Remove weight and carbs to email. — Everything in Moderation – Except Laughter.

Response:

Except of course that there is no sperm involved in this case – its about cloning. TBF to the religionists ( a Bushism ? ) they do not think all sperm are sacred but all human LIFE is sacred.
