   The battle grounds of civil liberties are unpopular causes.  As a    member of the ACLU, I didn’t like the conflict.    I resolved it by deciding "they" had a right to march.  Surviving    the march may be a different story. Well Art:  As I said in the last post.. Normally I consider ACLU to be something of a dirty word. However in this case, Much as I’d like to disagree with you folks… You are right….    the 14th which applies the  1st to states) that allows you to    protest and to assemble and state your case  also works for the    Nazi’s.    Sorry, no laws, constitutional amendments, or anything else (except,    perhaps, the ACLU) allow that.  No sir, The 1st amendment to the Constitution of the United States clearly  states you have the right to PEACEFUL assembly. This simply means you throw words, not rocks.  When the NAZI’s march, They are very careful to not throw the fist rock  That way they can claim self defense. And if this were not the LAW of the land, Then the ACLU would not be able to fight for it as they don’t use rocks.. They use laws.  In this case, The 1st amendment (I don’t agree with the ACLU in everything they do and do agree that ACLU is a "Dirty Word" however I got to agree with them on this one) Still… The proper response to a Nazi march is to get every one elsewhere They will get tired of talking to genuine brick walls. They WANT the confrontation.  Their march is not a success if they march unmolested.  Remember this… And they will go away. And to test your "Christian" Values…. How about "overthrow of the US government by violent means" ? Well the very same laws that allow you to do that, Namely the 1st amendment to the Constitution of the United States (Backed up by the 14th which applies the 1st to states) that allows you to protest and to assemble and state your case also works for the Nazi’s.

Sorry, no laws, constitutional amendments, or anything else (except, perhaps, the ACLU) allow that. I’d like to be able to restrict them… However the consequence of that action is that sooner or later. I’d be the one restricted.

Your rights are NOT unrestricted, albeit far less restricted than the founding fathers intended. regards m

However I will comment.. I’d be the one restricted.  Not them I’ll end this with something that more or less tells my position on freedom of speech and the importance of USING said freedom cause if you don’t use it you will surely loose it. But first… How should you respond to a NAZI march down main street. Simple. encourage everybody, I mean everybody (Except the nazi’s of course) to stay the (deleted) off main street… Let them march in front of and talk to nothing but blank walls with empty windows.. This, is as close to cursing them in the one way the Bible allows that you will ever get. (Can you tell me what that curse is?)  It’s a very powerful statement of "We don’t want your kind here"  Even more powerful than a rock or gun Now, the ending… I’ve taken heat over the author’s name. (People have said he did not write it) however the best information I have is, He did In Germany, When they came for the Communists, I didn’t speak up Because I wasn’t a Communists. Then they came for the Jews And I didn’t speak up Because I wasn’t a Jew. Then they came for the Trade Unionist And I didn’t speak up Because I wasn’t a Trade Unionist. Then They came for the Catholics And I didn’t speak up Because I was a Protestant. This was because the Nazi’s were able to effectively prohibit said freedoms. So now… You are asking us to put limits on "Freedom of Speech" and "Freedom of Peaceful assembly" Much as I’d love to limit a few groups (Including the Nazi’s) I respect and admire the Constitution and the 1st amendment there in "Nothing adds excitement like something that is none of your business" The real trick to carrying on is not getting carried away.
